I don't normally post bullshit articles from NewsSux (or "freeper fan fiction", as I have called it) but this one was so funny I had to share it.

Seems there's yet another angry ad from so-called Vietnam Vets who dislike our candidate. And they're hitting the South Carolina airwaves with an ad campaign that will "leave the Democratic nominee sorry he ever mentioned Vietnam as a campaign issue".

Here's the funny part: Who's leading this group? Our old friend, Ted Sampley. Yes, the same Ted Sampley that John McCain filed a restraining order against. And heeeeeeeessss baaaaaaaaaccccckkkkkk!

1. The Truth About Ted Sampley

They'd better be a little careful about using that guy, he's a con man.

Ted Sampley is head of the Vietnam Veterans Against Kerry and is responsible for the 1992 fake photo of John Kerry shooting an American MIA in Vietnam with the caption: Kerry eliminates another MIA from his discrepancy list. Sampley has a long history of working against both John Kerry & John McCain dating to the POW/MIA hearings. He even served jail time for starting a fight with John McCain's staff. Sampley was also given a restraining order.

Sampley has called John McCain the Manchurian Candidate and accused him of being brainwashed by the Vietnamese and being a KGB Spy. Additionally, McCain has pointed out that Sampley seems to exploit sensitive issues such as the POW/MIA hearings as a means of making money. McCains words were, "Sampley has a nose for publicity and knack for making money from invented controversies." On his current website, Sampley has another money making scheme selling bumper stickers and lapel pins that read Stop Hanoi John Kerry.

Mrs. Keating puzzles over the perverse pride Mr. Sampley takes in his work, which included torturing the family of an American POW in Iraq with fabricated details of his cruel death at the hands of an Iraqi mob. When the pilot was subsequently freed alive, Mr. Sampley dismissed his fraud as necessary to publicize the plight of POWs. Mr. Sampley excuses all his scams as necessary to advance a noble cause. Mrs. Keating reveals that his likely real motive is more mundane: money. She notes his earnings from his T-shirt concession located near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial were nearly $2 million over three years. He keeps his overhead costs down by not paying a dime to his employees." -John McCain

so long as they are not funded by corporations or unions. The groups can only be funded by individuals.

I do know MoveOn has three organizations. MoveOn.org is a 501(c), and they also have a seperate 527 and a PAC.

It's all so confusing.

You would think this is the first time John Kerry ever ran for public office. If these guys are not being backed by the Bush boys, then why didn't they express their displeasure with Kerry in any of his previous elections?

Actually, the ads are playing in NORTH Carolina where the VVAJK are not a registered PAC. Nor are they a registered federal PAC. I'll be contacting the State Board of Elections about their illegal activities tomorrow.

A chance, yes. It's an uphill battle, but there are a couple of encouraging signs. One is that Bush's poll lead (51/45) is currently significantly smaller than his margin of victory over Gore in 2000 (56/43). Another is that Kerry/Edwards are campaigning here. Kerry is in Greensboro today.

Since I don't live in the markets where the ads are supposedly running, I'll be relying on the article posted in the original thread. Maybe if they hear from a couple of people we'll have more of an impact. I wonder if it would be worth contacting the stations directly.

The 200K budget might take them a little farther than 2 or 3 airings depending on how they're packaging it. Plus, they don't have to provide the money upfront. They're billed on a 30day ad cycle.
