Senate minority leader and the Presidential vote in Kentucky
CNN's article on Eye on the Magic 60" pointed out something that I did not realize: Mitch McConnell may be (deservedly) in trouble.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/26/senate.majority/index.html

Now, here is my point. My father was a union leader in Kentucky for many years in the 60's through the mid 80's. Kentucky, though it acts red, still have a vast majority of their citizenry who call themselves Democrat.

If they are really considering throwing out their Mitch McConnell whom for some crazy reason they have held dear, I cannot see them pushing the McCain lever at the same time. One might argue that neighboring West Virginia will vote in Democrats by healthy margins yet have voted for Bush the past two elections. Still, I think perhaps Kentucky-which we have never seen as "in play"- could surprise us on election night. At the very least, it will be closer than the polls suggest.

1. I have a close aquaintance from Kentucky who I would have SWORN
was voting Repug - we typically do not talk politics but "she started it" one day and said the choice is so obviouse - OBAMA - she doesn't understand why anyone would think anything else. She is a very "old southern" type (and that's a compliment) and is very thoughtful. She doesn't push her opinion on others, but she said if you just LISTEN to what each candidate says and does not say, it's all there. Honestly, I thought that race might be a decider - shame on me - I didn't give her enough credit for being thoughtful and open. I believe she is actually registered as a Repug - again, we are careful about what we talk about and always very respectful of each other's views. She was the first repug that admitted they were voting Obama.

Then, just the other day, a DIE HARD Repub I used to work with told me "my man just may win this thing and thank God if he does - we really are in trouble and need him." This was one of those "huh" moments but boy, it just really makes me so hopeful!!! (He's in FL, by the way.) Didn't come out and say he was voting for him but the implication was that either he was or he wasn't voting at all, both of which are perfectly fine with me!
