Did BushCO lie about terror threat to NYC during the RNC convention?
Were those weeks of dire BushCO warnings about terrorist attacks against the convention, terrorist attacks to stop the election, etc., just ploys to stifle dissent? Were the protestors the real threat? Did BushCO gin up phony terror threats to militarize NYC in order to silence the protestors? Did we just see the first example of a phony terror threat used to establish a sort of martial law?

1. the terrorists did strike and Bush knew about it
they disrupted life in the city, implemented martial law, caused economic upheaval, etc. I saw the last RNC t-shirt on Sunday, so I guess they're gone now.

2. On Friday I did not see one cop
I guess they all got the day off. So clearly the terror threat was from the RNC, not al Queda.

3. more phony baloney
The Chimp has nothing to stand on. He never had anything to stand on really. But the "terra 'lerts" business is about the only "presidential" thing he can do.

He can't talk about the economy. He can't talk about education. He can't talk about foreign policy that doesn't involve nuking something. He can't talk about the environment. He does talk about health care once in a while, but fails miserably every time.

Basically, the only positive thing he's got in his bag of tricks is one big (but kind of foolish), scary (but kind of played out) bogey man Terrorism.

Since 9/11 and the Anthrax discoveries, there haven't been too many attacks on US soil. However, I've seen more terrorist acts around the world than ever before. So, even on the issue of "waging the war or 'terror,'" Chimpy sucks too. The world is less safe and a lot more complicated now.

So, the only club in his bag is fear.

4. And fear is very useful when you want to stifle dissent
And when you want to justify $65 MILLION in security costs to prevent protestors from getting too close to the Coward in Chief's little shindig. Guess who will be picking up the tab?

9. Fear is a powerful motivator
Perhaps the most powerful. But kinda pathetic too. In retrospect, I bet many Germans felt pretty foolish about Hitler. History is also pretty down on other fear based campaigns. The Crusades, the Native American Wars, Viet Nam, Joe McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover -- just to name a few. All foolish things, and when all is said an done there's a period of hangover and resentment. I have serious doubts that Bush's numbers will increase in NYC.

5. Answers to your questions.
Yes.

Yes.

In BushCo's warped view, yes.

Yes.

No, the first example was after Kerry nominated Edwards. The threat was used to float the trial balloon that the election might have to be canceled (and the unspoken word was martial law.)

And I will add a couple.

Was the terror threat purposely announced 2 days after the DNC to stifle the Kerry/Edwards gain in the polls?

Was the terror threat used to manipulate people's fears so they would (quoting Jon Stewart) be scared enough to not vote for Kerry, but not scared enough to not vote for Bush?

Yes and Yes.

7. He did look terrified while he was giving his big speech
Especially since protestors had managed to infiltrate MSG every single day. BushCO is so inept they couldn't even secure their own convention arena! So was Bush feeling safer, but not yet safe?

10. He can't really believe that. Nobody believes that.
Nobody believes the left would use violence. But it's useful to the right to use the spectre of violence to stifle speech, which is what they're actually afraid of. Truth is the only weapon we need. Facts. It's not because we're liberal, but because we're rational, that they must silence us.
