How important is it for the country to come together after the elections..
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 11:50 AM by TheCoxwain
While I really wish that the enforcers for the Right-wing don't put up huge barriers to the country coming together after the elections are done, I am sure they will do their best to whip up mass hatred for a democratically elected government - in part for revenge over our protests of the Bush administration but really to keep the flock within the fold of the Republican party ....

The GOP is in serious danger of going the way of the Whigs given the demographic changes underway ... so there are couple ways for the GOP'ers can respond. Apart from yelling, screeching, scrapping they are so good at - they can also choose to quieten down and take up the priorities of the country ( Country First - anyone?) in a way that they become more constructive participants in the government that doesn't necessarily compromise their philosophy ( if they have one at this point).

Wishful thinking? Maybe. I would like to call it 'Audacity of Hope'

4. Yes of course
Just the like Democrats worked so harmoniousy with Bush over the years.

We have a divided country. No way around that. When basic philosophic visions run counter to each other, there is very little that can be done to work together. Work together to do what? Their respective goals are diametrically opposed.

7. The trick is to find common goals .. take the abortion issue and abstract the problem away to
make a common workable issue like Obama says - let's make it about unwanted pregnancies that will uproot the divisiveness ...

Obama has to make that sale ... to refocus and reformulate issues that address all our concerns yet are framed in way that we all can agree on ... It is going to be huge challenge - but if anyone can do it - It is OBAMA.

5. If we win the presidency and a filibuster-proof majority...

... then wasting time on "uniting" with the hard-core right-wing is the LAST thing we should do.

Seriously.

There are pressing tasks that need doing, and President Obama and the Congress should push through bold, practical, serious solutions WITHOUT A THOUGHT to what the hard-core right-wing thinks.

If we are successful, if we can make positive changes, the "unity" will come as people capable of rational thought (this rules out the hard-core, of course) move into agreement with us.

There should be NO overtures to the hard-core right-wing.

Our successes will speak for themselves. But there will be no chance for success at all if we allow ourselves to be distracted and diverted by the lunatic fringe.

6. I expect them to scream impeachment even before the
ink is dry on Obama's inaugural speech. I realize they will be the minority party in both houses of Congress, but that won't stop them from doing everything they can to stand in the way of Obama's agenda after trying to undo the results of the election. There isn't anything I wouldn't put past these bastards. Get along? Never.

8. It doesn't matter - we can't get rid of hate - but we'll have a 60% +
coalition. Let them be left in the idiot bin

9. As important as it was for Hillary and Obama to come together.
That's why we are voting for Obama...not because we want a continuation of the constant fighting.

10. A bad analogy, IMO.

Sens. Obama and Clinton share many goals in common.

The issue here, as I see it, is what to do with people who HATE our goals.

They -- the truly hard-core right-wingers -- should be ignored and marginalized, IMO.

On the other hand...

Let President Obama rack up some real, practical successes -- unfettered by what the lunatic fringe thinks -- and you'll see the genuinely decent, rational people of America climb aboard the unity train.

:)
