Sarah Palin put her clothing at issue
Of course the story about what clothes she wears is a very minor one in the bigger picture of the serious issues of this campaign. If it were a completely isolated matter, I think it wouldn't be worth more than 24 hours of comment.

But Sarah Palin built her entire image around the idea of a frugal candidate who cuts costs. In countless speeches, she has mentioned the fact that she sold a jet on ebay to cut costs and to stop wasteful spending. She has also stated that she fired her cook and her chauffeur to stop waste.

She has been extremely defensive about the issue of the clothes because it undermines her image. Her only substantial claim to fitness for office as Governor and as Vice President is the image that she is fiscally conservative. It's the basis for her claims of being a reformer. That image has been shattered by the stories about billing the state to work at home and to transport her family around, as well as the expensive designer clothes she has been wearing. Take away that image, and you destroy her. Her image is her only substance.

2. as with all things political, its not the crime, its the coverup
I think 150K is a bit much, but if they'd just said "so what?" they'd have been better off. I don't think ANYONE buys the "we'll give it to charity" flail.

3. Best statement of the campaign about Palin.
"Her image is her only substance."

4. Palin needs to completely disrobe before the american people.
That is the only way she can put this incident behind her.

5. I think it also goes to how the McPalin campaign proves that they
have no clue about managing their own funds. How can I trust them to know what are necessary and unnecessary expenses and what is an outrageous expense and what is not. If he can't handle it on the small scale of a campaign, how the hell do we trust them with the money?

They don't have a clue and this whole affair is a metaphor for how McPalin would govern.
