Bush's FLIP-FLOPS in a convenient flyer format

I’m a war president.
February 8, 2004

Nobody wants to be a war president. I’m a peace president.
July 20, 2004

I have a clear vision and a strategy to win the war on terror.
July 14, 2004

I don’t think you can win (the war on terror).
August 30, 2004

I want justice (for Bin Laden). And there’s an old poster out West...that says, ‘Wanted: Dead or Alive.’
September 17, 2001

I don’t know where (Osama Bin Laden) is. You know, I just don’t spend that much time on him... I truly am not that concerned about him.
March 13, 2002

You can’t distinguish between al Qaeda and Saddam when you talk about the war on terror.
September 25, 2002

We’ve had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved in September 11th.
September 17, 2003

If we don’t stop extending our troops all around the world in nation-building missions, then we’re going to have a serious problem coming down the road.
October 3, 2000

We will be changing the regime of Iraq, for the good of the Iraqi people.
March 6, 2003

We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories...for those who say we haven’t found the banned manufacturing devices or banned weapons, they’re wrong, we found them.
May 29, 2003

We haven’t found stockpiles yet, and there’s theories as to where the weapons went. They could have been destroyed during the war. Saddam and his henchmen could have destroyed them as we entered into Iraq. They could be hidden. They could have been transported to another country...

2. This is perfect to have to point out to others and to drop at places
where people can pick them up. Easy to read quickly.

4. Thanks, everyone.
There are more flyers from many other DUers on the "Post your flyers here!" thread in the Activism/Events forum.

I also have a flyer of administration lies leading up to the Iraq war:

5. Plenty more if you can fit them in
Saw this link on DU a little while ago. It's excellent. Can you do a two-sider?

7. I actually got some of my quotes from that site.

:)
However, many of the flip-flops there are not direct quotes from Bush on both the flip and the flop. He'll say one thing and do another, but instead of acknowledging it publicly, he'll have a surrogate quietly change policy. I thought it would be more effective if I showed how Bush's own words can't be trusted.

I would LOVE to do a more comprehensive flyer, but can't figure out how to condense it into a few words. There are so many reversals, maybe it should be a scroll instead of a flyer.

10. Just went back to AmericanProgressAction.org
and they have a "poster" (flyer) link at the very end that's very much like what you are describing. They have most of the flip-flops from their site on it.

It looks like they didn't leave much of a margin, so you'll want to select "fit in print area" when printing, so you don't cut anything off.

15. Nice! This is snappy and useable . . . I'd keep adding to, it I was
you. (If you make it long enough, park it in Editorials. I could be VERY useful.)

I like the snappy approach rather than long, discursive comparisons. These are immediatley useable.

I have been meaning to make one like this for ages now, but never got down to it -- I am going to make copies and leave them all over this very Republican Texas town! :-)

25. One of my favs . . .
I don't know if you'd call this a flip-flop or not, but his position(s) on so-called "tort reform" is pretty damned inconsistent.

1. Our court system doesn't work when companies are being sued, so everyone's right to sue a company needs to be limited.

2. Our court system works just fine when it's sentencing people to death. I only need 15 minutes to look over the file before refusing clemency.

Same judges, juries, lawyers. Works fine when it's just some guy about to die. Doesn't work at all when corporations may be called to answer for their faulty products.

27. Is there a better quote out there?

September 17, 2003

I don't think these two are exact or even close opposites.

28. It's a pretty big distinction, IMO.
Especially when you're talking about launching a war. Before the war, Bush implied Saddam was in league with al Qaeda, though he was careful not to say it explicitly; but he mentioned them in the same breath countless times.

After the war, he admitted Saddam had no connection to 9/11, and didn't feel the same need to blur the line dividing them.

I'd call that a flip-flop--a change in policy from deceptive juxtaposition to something resembling honesty.

If you know of a better quote, I'm open to changing the flyer. PM me if you like.
