1. It's theoretically possible, but very unlikely
Especially since Begich will now almost certainly beat Stevens.

4. Even if Stevens were to win, Palin would be too busy fending off recall threats to go to DC.
The crimes Stevens was charged with are the same crimes Palin has allegedly committed. She's daft but she has enough sense not to fall on that sword so quickly.

8. She doesn't replace anyone. Posted earlier, someone showed the AK legal
code that says a special election will be held to appoint the new Senator. The Gvnr has no power to appoint anyone to the position. Very unlikely she would be elected to the position. The dem candidate will very likely be the next senator for AK, Moose will finish her two years, and be cast off into the darkness of AK winter.

9. i looked at this earlier
it was on the ballot in 2004. Alaskans voted YES, so the governor couldn't even appoint a temporary appointment.

Special election in 60-90 days, with NO senator in the mean time.

Alaskans were pissed at Frank Murkowski appointing his daughter.

11. The Democrat will probably win and we'll be that much better off
I don't feel the Alaskans are indifferent to corruption just disengaged from politics.

16. You're wrong.
According to DUers from Alaska, the law in Alaska was changed a couple of years ago so that Alaska is now one of a handful of states where the governor cannot fill a vacancy in the US Senate. The vacancy can only be filled by a special election. This change in the law apparently was made in reaction to Frank Murkowski appointing his daughter to fill his seat when he was elected governor.

18. That occurred to me, too. Now that she's been on the national stage
it's not going to be fun to go back to the governor's mansion. I wouldn't be surprised to see Stevens step aside this week and Sarah step in immediately. She knows she's not going to be VP and this is a viable plan B.

19. After yesterday's Stevens decision I think that seat will flip blue.
Palin can barely speak, let alone write legislation.

21. Don't fret about that. Very little chance
Stevens will probably lose his seat. I don't see how he can possibly win, considering he got convincted on 7 counts, and all his dirty laundry is out.

25. yes, but like so the fuck what?
First Stevens has to get re-elected, which may be difficult. Then that woman ends up as just another minority party senator. I could hardly care less.
