Rumors increase in last days of campaigns
Barack Obama is not a member of a socialist party. John McCain is not a foreigner. Sarah Palin is not Trig's grandmother. And Joe Biden is not dropping out of the race.

Oh, and they're not all having sordid affairs.

But it's Rumor Season again in this country, and with just days to go before the election, both campaigns are frantically knocking down these rumors — often spreading virally on the Internet — along with a steady stream of other nasty hints and allegations that range from the questionable to the outrageous.

One thing you can believe: It'll only get worse between now and Election Day.

"With just days left to go in the campaign, it's use it or lose it time. If you're a candidate, now's the time to get it out, to sear it in voters minds just before they go to the voting booth," said UC Santa Cruz psychology professor Anthony Pratkanis, who researches propaganda and social influence.

1. Obama's got a fantastic new site
keeping track of a lot of this here: http://radar.barackobama.com/.
The rumors I'm most worried about are those connected directly with voting -- that election day is the 5th, etc., and these are best monitored by each of us in our own neighborhoods.

4. Rumors in the last days of the campaign? Obama's been hit with rumors and libels since he
announced. People say anything to fill a column.

5. The article does mention that rumors are at their peaks at the beginning
and the ending of campaigns.
But you're right. They have been consistently spread about Obama.
I know a fairly well known political person around these parts. He kept forwarding these rumors about Obama and I refuted each and every one, mainly through siting snopes.com.
He's not real internet savy and doesn't send email out using "bcc," which allows me to alert everyone he sent the email to. I think his credibility is shot to hell at this point.
