2. Lots of important downballot races that
straight ticket voting may shake up--senate, judges, local county officials.

4. I get the joke...
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 03:14 PM by BlueIdaho
But for many hard working Democrats that are fighting against the odds - trying to turn the tide and make a real difference in deep red states, its not all that funny. We get to hear more than our share of nasty comments shouted from the windows of pick up trucks and SUV's as we walk door to door, we get booed at and called communists when we march in 4th of July parades, and now we've got to get shit here at DU too?

Instead of laughing at us - why don't you try lending us a hand?

YES. WE. CAN.

6. It was a response...
To two or three other threads posting the same thing about other states Obama really has no chance of winning. While I commend you on your work, as it is helping down-ticket dems... some states are just always red and some are always blue. Texas is always going to be a red state, just like Califoria is always going to be blue.

18. I'm glad TX Dems have more faith in our state than you do
Until you witness the energy down here first hand, please don't feel as if you have any ground to stand on when it comes to TX Dem politics.
As I share this, please keep in mind that the following is just 2 events in one county..the same is no doubt going on statewide (and we have alot of state, in case you didn't notice): Two weekends in a row I joined 30-35 people who met up in local retail parking lots at 7 am on Saturday mornings..to blockwalk/leave door hangers with candidate names (top of the ticket to the very bottom) and early voting information...added all together, we hit 9,000 houses. In just 2 events. In one city.
In my county in 2004, only 6,000 Dems showed up for our primary to vote. This year, 70,000 voted. In a county that is historically 70-30 repuke.

We had to move our county convention because instead of previously recorded 400 people attending in previous prez election years, they had to find a place to safely accomodate like 3500 people.

Can't even begin to describe voter registration drives successes. Been at some events that registered 130 to 150 new voters in a 6 to 7 hour time span.

Again, this is NOT special to MY county alone, it is happening around the state.

So I take offense at your "always red" comment.
We are making alot of progress here. As of now, there are polls showing mclame with half the lead that chimpass had in 2000 and 2004. Half. We are whittling our way to a blue state, one election at a time.

15. Damned straight we can.
This.

Texas CAN turn blue. Bit by bit, we're making a dent. Don't laugh at us, laugh with us. It may not happen this election, but it'll never happen if we make a joke of it ever happening.

9. I admit it. I dream big.
I have stated that I think Obama can take Texas. Needless to say, I've been told there's no way in hell. If come election night, I am proven wrong, well, I won't be sad. I know that the Democratic party has been revived in my state and this year, we're going to give those repubs one hell of a run for their money. A lot of down-ticket, good-old-boys are going to find themselves out of a job come November 5th and that's satisfying beyond measure.

All I ask is to hear these words, just once on election night:

"Texas is still too close to call."

Yeehaw, motherfuckers.

If you can't win your opponent's home state, how do you plan to win the election.

19. Oh, no honey.....
I voted Sunday and waited 45 minutes to vote!!!! I was in the line with I'm sure McSame voters but a lot more Obama voters. I was very impressed with the way things were going and the way the poll watchers were handling things. I have to say Arlington had a model situation but I sure hope those dayum machines counted the way I voted!!!!
