I just picked an email fight with my entire church here in Northern Virginai

Well I guess if you are behind, you get to lie to the voters about when they get to vote. This is an ugly election day hoax being pushed here in Virginia

This is being distributed in Northern Virginia and in African American communities downstate. It is a complete hoax and is beyond shameful. The state police and the BOE are investigating this as a mass act of voter intimidation.

What would our Virginia forefathers: Thomas Jefferson and George Washington say?

I believe that everyone who meets the statutory eligibility requirements should be allowed to vote without exception, There is never any justification for deception or intimidation or fraud. I hope they catch these people and put them in State Prison for a very long time.

Regardless of who you are supporting….make sure you vote on or before next Tuesday.

The Church has all flavors of politics. I will get some nastygrams back, but I am setting it up for a week long discussion about the politics of hate.

14. I want a public execution on TV
This is incredible. It is not unlike reports in the Rovian 2000 and 2004 era when senior citizens were told they had extra time to vote. RepuKKKes are about nothing more than retaining power to line their pockets and enrich their benefactors (large corporations). Their greatest pain would be to see average Americans benefit while their CEO buddies had to do with one less maid.

2. Thank you for sending that out to everyone you did and good luck there.I think a wk discussion on
the politics of hate would be a good thing for a group of people to talk about, and a good thing to do with church people too.

3. Jefferson would be appalled that blacks were allowed to vote at all
let alone a day late. Or did I miss the part of history where Jefferson freed his slaves on July 4th?

18. The point is deification of the "Founding Fathers" as all knowing
benevolent beings who were the model of reasoning, ethics, and morality as evidenced by their creation of a great democracy is propaganda. The truth of what the founding fathers would say about this issue would shock anyone that took a moment to think about what they actually would say, and in this case, would not support the poster's main point.

20. In Jefferson's draft of the Declaration
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 05:28 PM by frogmarch
of Independence, he regarded blacks to be equal to whites in a moral sense. Only with regard to their legal rights at the time could Jefferson be called a racist, and that is by today's standards.

Excerpt from Jefferson's draft of the Declaration:

"He (the king) has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating its most sacred rights of life and liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him, captivating and carrying them into slavery in another hemisphere, or to incur miserable death in their transportation thither. . . . Determined to keep open a market where men (i.e. human beings) should be bought and sold, he has prostituted his negative for suppressing every legislative attempt to prohibit or to restrain this execrable commerce."

33. Yes, it is. Jefferson was
a complex man. He owned slaves yet regarded black people biologically (including intellectually) equal to whites. He didn't support the idea of equal legal rights for blacks only because most of them were uneducated, not because he considered them inferior to whites in any way. My grasp of Jefferson's writings regarding slavery is that he was afraid that freeing slaves would cause massive problems at a time when our new nation was already in turmoil.

35. Actually, Jefferson's thinking on voting rights in addition to the complete civil war
that emancipation would cause was the question of education regardless of race. The requirements to have the right to vote in America evolved from being a white land-owning white male to being expanded to all white males and then to men in general and then people in general. But the way voting was initially set up, there was an attempt at a filter that eventually got broken down.

So yes, Jefferson's thinking was rather complex in comparison to how he and the other Founding Fathers are usually summarized as.

25. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor...
Jesus doesn't like liars. He got angry a few times too, but he never, ever taught us to hate! This is one thing I don't get. Here in CA we have Prop 8 on the ballot, rescinding gay marriage. There's a church in my neighborhood with "Save Marriage! Vote Yes on Prop 8!" on their sign! I was enraged! Who would Jesus hate? They are literally treating homosexuals as the lepers of the 21st century! Yet they fail to remember how Jesus treated lepers.

Matthew 25 says it all. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Oh yes there will.

26. Luckily this is so over the top that I don't think most people will fall for it.
It would defeat the whole purpose of a secret ballot, if the day you voted depended on who you supported.

But it is still an awful tactic and whoever printed those flyers needs to be charged.

32. If those flyers even remotely look like official State of Virginia letterhead, many WILL fall for it
Not living in VA, and not being able to tell much from a shrunken photocopy, I don't know how "authentic' the document looks. But I do know that, in addition to election fraud, it also should be (and probably is) a crime to use official state letterhead for unofficial purposes (if that's what they have done) and also illegal to use state resources for campaign purposes, which would probably be the case if it were on official letterhead.

Hopefully there's a trail on this one that will lead directly back to the 'Pukes responsible. Maybe they'll be in jail and won't be able to vote for Gramps on Tuesday.

Or even Wednesday ;)

Nail 'em- send this to KO!

Democrats vote on Nov. 5th - I don't think so!!

Contact your county's registrar of voters, too.
Let them see this!

Good luck.

African-American voters know that Nov. 4th is election day. So many have actually taken advantage of early voting, so I wouldn't worry about this.
