Kerry is getting Gored.
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 06:32 PM by sfecap
MSRNC....ABC...CNN...

Kerry is getting Gored and Deaned. They are deciding for the people that the Villiage Idiot should get four more years.

The ONLY thing that will win this is turning out the Democratic vote.

We better hope that we do it.

10. It all has to do with the squeeze put on corporations by Rove's thugs.
Rove knows that Disney/ABC needs the US Government's license to do business and he uses it effectively to bring them into his fold. You know what they say: Grab them by their balls and their hearts and minds will follow.

Kerry was in my hometown today at a rally where none of the public was welcome. It tore me to shreds not to be able to go see him and glom off a little hope from him.

(I'm not even literate today. Forgive me.)

I just feel like I know where this is all headed and there's nothing I, or decent people like you DUers can do about it.

36. Lancer here again w/GSO rally rant
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 07:11 PM by Lancer
Today's town meeting was a hastily arranged Kerry rally at our elegant, restored 1927 train station. (Seats 500 max in the old waiting room.)

The appearance was announced to the public for the first time in the Sunday September 5 edition of the Greensboro News & Record.

The story said that the local Dem Party had taken about 1/3 of the tickets, and was giving some to blue collar workers who they wanted to have ask the Senator questions about jobs. (We've lost so many in textiles and tobacco.)

But, other tickets were allegedly available to the unwashed if you called the Dem Party office. (I have no official position or function within the Party at this time, although I have in the past.)

I did call the Office immediately, (at 8:30 a.m.) to see what their answering machine message said. Nothing. They were to be open at 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

So, I called at 1:58 p.m., set up redial so they'd call me back as soon as the line was free. The call came at 2:03 p.m.

PARTY HACK: I'm sorry, no tickets are available.

LANCER: I'm sorry, I don't understand, this was just anounced to the public TODAY. There was never even any mention of this rally on your website.

PARTY HACK: I know, it's a small venue, the Senator is here mainly to meet with those who've lost their jobs, blah blah blah. I'm sorry.

LANCER (thinks but doesn't say): I've been unemployed for two years waiting for disability and I had as much right to see the Senator as anyone else. I was all set to walk 4 miles to the train station.
____________________

This is so wrong. Tiny, crowded venues may play better on TV, but like many of you, I thought better of John Kerry than this. It's obvious his appearances fill whatever space is available. . . even the Grand Canyon.

that really is terrible. Especially since you are a volunteer AND un employed. You should call the Campaign HQ and tell them the whole story. Strangely, I live in NY (Long Island) and I got an email tonight from HQ giving me tickets to an event in Allentown PA for Friday. Why, I have the faintest. You really need to tell them the whole story, its pretty shitty.

Here's todays meme:

Kerry has no clear message.

Kerry's campaign staff is in disarray.

Jesse Jackson on CNN today accuses Kerry's campaign of ignoring the grassroots. (Actually I think their crime was ignoring Jessee...)

Kerry is not tough enough, not clear enough, and flip flops.(Mike Barnicle, alleged Kerry "friend")

Kerry is now playinf catch up. (Even though WE know that's bullshit...)

38. As far as Kerry's candidacy goes, I voted against before I voted for it.
;) That's because I voted for Dean. So no, I'm not shocked at a media hit job, and I don't think Kerry is either. I think he felt he had to let the Bush gang beat up on him for awhile so he could hit back REALLY hard under the cover of counterpunching and defending his honor.

The SHEER IDIOCY and BLATANT AND RABID UNPROFESSIONALISM of the media may in fact surprise him a bit. I think he'll process it and respond as needed.

20. No--we can't turn it off--we've got to hold the media's feet to the fire
and make them report the truth dammit instead of fucking talking points. If we lose this election we have lost the country and our very souls. We have to win and we need the media to do it. That's why it's so important we watch these bunch of media whores and complain loudly and bitterly every single time they report shit like this. We've got to actively let them know that we will not stand for them pushing the Rove agenda down our throats like they did four years ago. And we can't do that if we stick our heads in the sand and ignore them.

18. Correction - two things needed for a K win = two at the minimum...
You said:

"The ONLY thing that will win this is turning out the Democratic vote."

What is also needed is a honesty in vote counting. There can be a 20% increase in Dem voters, but it won't help if they cheat by 22%.

Cheat = steal.

23. Rove's Master Plan
This is all just part of Rove's- three part- master plan after 9-11. #1 portray W as a strong leader by having him speak nothing but tough-guy sound bites like "Dead or Alive" and "Smoke them out of their holes". #2 portray his opponent as "weak" and "indicisive"- whomever that opponent might be (See flip-flopper and Swift Boats in case it's Kerry or Clark). #3 Do EVERYTHING you possibly can to limit the re-election debate to the question of "Who will be the strongest and most decisive leader".
Aw SHIT! I was in Karl Rove's head for a second there. I need a shower.

34. Sure- thats part of it
Sure- that's part of it. That's the easy part- W appointed the guy that determines when the "chatter" and the two year old reports call for a press conference to move the death-o-meter from plaid to magenta. What is TRULY scary is that the media so passively lays down for this shit. I may be delusional, but I think I have a legitimate answer for how to respond to the "Bush is our Protector" line of B.S. Check out my post "The war of perception and how we can win it"- apparently that's not a title that inspires a lot of interest, but damn-it, I think I'm on the right track.

35. Maybe we could...
organize a day when all of us--every single DU member and any friends/relations we can recruit--bombard the media with phone calls and emails about their biased coverage? We can coordinate very specific talking points/examples ahead of time, as well as a list of places to contact, and just go at it all day long. It'll be like phone-banking, but for media coverage instead of potential voters. We need to let the media know that we know they're biased, and that we're going to call them out on it every chance we get. If it's a large, concerted effort, won't it have to get their attention?

39. I don't know that they care
Liberal in Georgia, huh? I'm posting from Oklahoma, so believe me, I know how you feel. From what I can tell, which isn't much, I think the main stream media's apparent shift to the right is a response to the success of FOX news, and the ad money the are bringing in. And while I KNOW that FOX is driven by a political agenda- I am optimist enough to believe that the big three are still driven by their quest for cash. I can't imagine anything we as DU'ERs could do to upset their financial prognostications- but I did come up with an idea for de-railing the "Bush=Strength" train that has them ahead in the polls. Check out my post titled "The war of perception and how we can win it" Too long to go into detail here.

40. You're right--they probably don't care at the top...
But maybe, just maybe, there are some (don't laugh) impartial journos out there who would at least absorb our message by osmosis and tilt the coverage a bit back to the center. We know Fox sends down memos about the talking points of the day, but we could at least try to work on ABC, NBC and CNN (especially if the latter realizes they'll never match Faux news in terms of gaining Bushie viewiers and gives up that route).

Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but if the alternative is to sit on our asses, do nothing and bitch about it, I'll take optimism and action.

Something is always better than nothing- but I can't see starting a media effecting avalanche from the snow-ball we have to throw at the big three networks. If you want to see a truly impressive example of one man raging semi-successfully raging against the machine- check out a site called "Freewayblogger.com"- or something like that. Was on it for the first time last night- it was a hoot- and given enough alcohol and back-to-school supplies, I might give it a shot myself. Stay pissed and keep fighting!

33. I think the rightward turn by the media at this time has to do
with the fact that the Faux "news" network beat out the other corporate networks in the ratings for the pug national CONvention. The whores probably now think that since Faux won the ratings then that must surely mean people support the pugs and do not support Kerry and the Dems. Therefore, the corporate media elites think, they need to imitate Faux and pound the drums of support for shrubbie as well.

37. NPR is guilty of this!!!
Today, at the noon news break, they mentioned a Bush appearance, and a Kerry appearance, as follows: '... Bush, speaking to a cheering, flag waving crowd of 10,000 or more...' then Kerry '.. speaking to a group in Missouri'. Bush speaks to cheering, flag waving, enthusiastic crowds, Kerry speaks to a group. I love when people try to say that NPR is liberal. When their biggest donors are now pharmaceutical companies, I don't feel so warm and fuzzy toward them anymore..
