Cronkite/Eight Arizona poll: McCain 46-Obama 44.
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 09:15 AM by DeepBlueDem
McCain 46, Obama 44

he new Cronkite/Eight poll out Tuesday evening shows Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) trailing Sen. John McCain of Arizona by two points, 44 to 46. Since the margin of error is plus or minus three points, the race is a statistical tie in Arizona.

That two-point margin "makes the race too close to call," according to the memo released with the findings. Bruce Merrill, who conducted the poll for Arizona State University's Cronkite School of Journalism and local PBS affiliate KAET/Eight, said the race is "very close."

"Supporters of both candidates are highly committed to their candidates," said Merrill in the release, "with 94 percent of Obama’s supporters and 93 percent of McCain’s supporters indicating that they are firmly committed and won’t change their mind before Election Day. In addition, the undecided vote is very low, which means that there are few people remaining to be persuaded during the last week of the campaign."

Merrill said Obama has been "attracting independents and women to his campaign," while McCain "does well among conservative Democrats and evangelicals."

"Still," continued Merrill, "a week is a long time in a political campaign and anything can happen.Who wins will be determined by which candidate gets their supporters out to the polls on Election Day."

1. I'd Like . . .

. . . every concerntroll out there to discuss this poll (and similar findings in GA, ND, and MT) before posting some hysterical rant about the latest numbers from IBD/TIPP or whatever ridiculous tracking poll has hit the tubes today.

2. This is so weird. I think Arizona is sick of McLame.
They must have a love/hate relationship with him as they vote in him as their Senator but its extemely close when he runs for President. Don't know if Obama can pull this off but it is interesting.

3. Momentum
This is great news. I live in AZ. We have a Dem Anne Kirkpatrick who is running very strong against her opponent. Our governor Janet Napoletano is Dem. Just the mere fact that McCain is running for his life here is truly heartening.

Folks, this could be a total blowout. I'm calming down; you won't hear any more concern from me.

6. out of curiousity, what kind of Senator has McSame been for Arizona
typically folks are voted in based on the amount of pork they bring back home in the form of highway projects, ..etc

Since he hates earmarks and pork ...what does he do for his state?

7. Pet peeve here...
I understand that this is not coming from the OP directly, but:

It is not a "statistical tie" because they are both within the MOE. "statistical tie" is basically a made up bogus term.

Either they are tied or they are not.

There is still a better chance that the one polling higher actually has the higher vote count. They are not doing equally good just because they are within MOE reach of each other.
If we look at the pure mathematical side to determing the MOE at least.

But it is potentially good news. :)
