Wingers Harass 90-year old woman voting
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 09:39 AM by WoodrowFan
My cousin in Dayton is working as a volunteer in the Obama campaign. She's never been political before but is really into it. She sent me this story. I deleted a few details to protect her privacy.

So I'm taking one of my little ladies to vote. She does not see well or hear well and uses a walker cane thing...... picture our grandma :) We get there and the line was longer than it ever has been.and I asked her if she wanted me to go back to the car to get a chair.she said yes.So as I'm getting back to her with the chair a man from the front of the line comes up to us offers us to come to the front of the line.So you are think how nice right? well it goes down hill from here. I open the chair she sits ,but she wont stop talking (loudly) about Obama.( that might be my fault I really helped them get fired up about voting for him) So the guy who let us cut in line and his 6 buddies start getting bent out of shape.Saying to her if I know you were voting for that @#$%$% I wouldn't have let you come up here. Then out of nowhere a good amount of the crowd began to chant " kick her out of line" I looked at "Joe Bubba" like what the hells wrong with you....oh and I do know how to flash that look, just ask my kids hehe.

She was getting so upset and said maybe we better go to the back of the line,or maybe come back another day.She was getting so upset I was getting worried about her,did I mention she was 94 years old.I told her it was ok and I would do what ever she needed to do. Then she asked me what should she do.I told her you do what feels right to you. Then she says what would you do .....oh damn.So I say I'm a independent, strong willed and sometimes a suborn person so what I would do....then I take 2 steps back so I can see the people in the line.I say maybe louder than I needed to." I wouldn't let these people intimidate me,This country was build by people who were not intimidated and held strong to their beliefs." ... it was so quite you could have heard a pin drop all eyes were on us. She says honey would you get the chair.I folded up the chair thinking were were leaving as she turns to "Joe Bubba" looks him square in the eye and says "I will stand until its my turn to vote ! " Then there were cheers and whistles and clapping . I was so proud of her....

I am sending my cousin a link to this post. Cuz: I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!

9. Suburb? Montgomery Co. BOE is the only place for early voting
and that's in downtown Dayton. From what I've been told, the line isn't (or hasn't been) long at all.

What's up?

10. Greene
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 09:58 AM by WoodrowFan
I looked up her town, it just over the county line in Greene County. I haven't lived in the area since 1983 so I'm fuzzy on which suburb in the east is in which county. (I grew up in the southern suburbs, near the Dayton Mall)

Montgomery only has 1 place to vote early? that sucks.

14. All Ohio counties have only one place for early voting and
usually it's at that county's BOE.

Link here for SoS Jennifer Brunner's website of voting places and there's also a link to report any problems; I suggest your cousin do so.

8. Great story, and good for them for standing up for what's right.
And yet you just know that the GOP losers didn't have the minimum number of brain synapses firing to make them ashamed of their brutish behavior.

I would let a 90-year old woman voting for McCain get in front of me in line. And I would respect her right to vote for her choice.

More appalling behavior courtesy of the Doofus Brigade (aka GOP).

24. The McCain/Palin supporters have no respect for anything or
anyone. I am glad that your cousin stood up and I am so glad that the elderly lady went toe to toe with them. They are bully's and when we don't stand toe to toe and nose to nose with them they feel that they can continue to run over us.

No Mas my friends No Mas!! (I admit it my partner made me watch the Chihuahua movie!!)

25. If a 94 year old woman cut in front of me and said she was voting for McCain......
I would say absolutely nothing and I would discourage anyone around me from giving her a hard time. I might politely chat with her about politics and her choice but I would never make someone that elderly feel uncomfortable. 94 is 300% older than I am. Heck, I'm not even sure I want to see myself in the mirror at 94 years old. I'd rather go to that big Goodyear Blimp in the sky than live to be that old.

That lady has more guts than any of that unruly mob. I hope that these people who joined in on the harassment know shame for their ignorant behavior.

in line in the future.

I wish we had enough people to film all of those proud Republicans who are actually fighting to

intimidate their fellow Americans exercising their civil right to vote.

I'd like to have photos and names of all those people who are harassing their fellow citizens for voting.

On edit--

I'd love to see a newspaper spread or TV spread in their own towns showing -- THESE ARE YOUR FELLOW CITIZENS WHO THOUGHT IT IMPORTANT TO HARASS OTHERS FOR EXERCISING THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE.
