Dear John,
Throughout your campaign you have constantly referred to us as your friends. We have heard you say “my friends” more times than we would ever want to count, but I don't think you really understand who our friends are.
Our friends are the people the people who have lost their homes and jobs because you decided to help your rich cronies in Corporate America by deregulating industry and allowing corporations to do whatever they want no matter the consequences.
Our friends are the people who were killed in this illegal war that you supported, they are the people who have lost limbs and loved ones because you repeated the lies that your buddy Bush told you to repeat.
Our friends are the people that are having their Constitutional rights stripped from them because you went along with the Bush agenda and voted for warrantless wiretapping and torture, while you voted against habeas corpus despite the very clear words of the Constitution.
Our friends are our gay brothers and sisters who you have allowed your party to use as a political punching bag so you could rally the homophobic vote.
Our friends are the women who are forced to make the very difficult decision of whether or not to have an abortion when they find out that their pregnancy may potentially cause them serious health problems, they are the very same women you dismissed during the last debate as extremists.
Our friends are the people who may not necessarily live in the parts of the country that your running mate refers to as “Pro-American”, they may live in San Francisco, Massachusetts or any of the other places you have allowed your party to demonize.
Our friends are the children who are forced to breathe toxic air and drink polluted water because people like you have determined that industry profits come before environmental protection.
Our friends are the people who are suffering without health care because you would rather engage in cheap attacks against “socialism” than actually do something to ensure that every American has access to health care.
Our friends are the people who are currently being illegally purged from the voting rolls while your campaign ignores the voter suppression and instead throws a fit about how registration drives in poor and minority neighborhoods somehow “undermines the fabric of our democracy”.
Our friends are the people who are forced to sleep in the streets because you don't believe in providing for the welfare of people in need.
Our friends are the people who are stuck in dead end jobs because they can't afford to go to college when people like you refuse to invest in education.
Our friends are the people who are being threatened by global warming while you continue to promote more oil drilling.
Our friends are real Americans who are facing real problems. Our friends are facing problems, and you have made it clear that you will only make their problems worse. You can call us your friends all you want, but on Tuesday of next week we will show you that you are not a friend of ours.
Sincerely,
A Citizen
