How come "the Best Country in the World" has such an embarrassing third-world electoral system ???

Has there been any word from Obama on how he wants to change that ???

2. Maybe because we can't even assure accurate voting machines, never mind anything more high falutin'
Online tax returns are verifiable via name, address, and SSN matches. To do the same with votes without attaching vote content is too big a challenge for a country still dealing with hanging chads and vote-flipping machines.

4. I can access my bank account, use my credit card and check my credit rating...
all online.

So, yes, I would ask the same question as well.

6. Devil's advocate: There is little incentive to fraudulently pay other people's taxes

11. If you pay your taxes online, you probably got a card with a pin number ...
Pin and SSN should match. Once a vote is in for a SSN, the system would reject any other votes for that SSN.

A third question would be birth of date.

I don't see how you can fraudulently vote, large scale, with this system ???

7. Is there any country in the world that votes online?
Online voting would be a complete disaster. Nothing is secure and reliable on the internet.

9. Banking is secure ... Filing taxes is secure.
There are European countries with online voting.

You can also think about a phone system for voting.

10. There are? Which ones?
I do NOT feel comfortable voting on any machine.... I can't imagine voting on the internet. I think the possibility of fraud, hacking, and the voting site just magically going down are too high. Can't we just go back to paper?

8. In Canada, probably 80% of people register to vote by ...
... checking a checkbox on their Federal income tax return. It's optional, you don't have to register this way.

The Federal voter registry database is updated every year, and it's open for the Provinces to use.

It's a real simple solution for the U.S. as well. It would be up to each States whether they want to use it or not, but I can not imagine how a State can refuge to use this information. As a Governor it would be hard to explain.
