given the distortions to President Kerry's record perpetuated by your staff, you will be afforded no more access than a tabloid. Then proceed to give them a list of ways to make their network more focussed on real news.

but we all know that the reality is that kerry won't really be able to do this. Reporters have a pack mentality, if he starts punishing some of them, particularly if it seems vindictive, the others will turn against Kerry and he'll get worse press than President Clinton.

Aside from her biased reporting and comentary this election, Meyers still needs to be punished for Anita Broderick.

Being the Uber Whore that he is, I think John King will come a'groveling and start whoring for us, as will Tweety after he sees Wolf go down the long slide.

The real question is when Team Kerry makes it clear to these people that they better stop whoring or start praying for chimp to win--- because they're toast.

The trick should not be to shut out the media, but to USE the media to your advantage! An administration, as well as a candidate, needs the media every bit as much as the media needs them. Try to shut them out and they'll just make up their own stories based upon assumptions.

The GOP has succeeded in turning the media to their side. 9/11 helped quite a bit as well, with many in the media going into 'stand behind our President' mode.

Yes, shut the media out - maybe new guys that take their job will understand the message - fair reporting equals exclusives and interviews.

Nightline shilled hard for the war. I remember a light bulb going off in my head when I saw the embedded journalists, Koppel among them. No wonder they wanted the war, they were going to get to dress up and play soldier on location in Iraq. They must have thought this revolutionary idea would be a ratings bonanza on par with "reality tv". Of course they packed up and left town as soon as the shock and awe wore off and the ratings started plummeting. Just before things got real, ironically.

50. Good watch out list
The media is conducting an ad campaign to sell * . One of the methods they are using is to keep Kerry's drummed up negatives at (what the ad world calls), "top of the mind awareness."

How else can it be explained that they continue to ask Dems how Kerry would be different from * on Iraq, and a host of other issues, after it has been explained often enough and well enough for a two year old to understand? Tweety has more than one brain cell working, so after he's heard the explanation 20 times, what he is saying to the audience is that he is not convinced, so buyer beware!

The only way to counter this is to insist that the Dem talkers stay on message, keep to the facts, and steer the agenda-- just like the pugs do.

Even after last night's screw-up with the number one story*, my opinion of the quality of his work has only solidified. I mean, how many folks on TV would admit their mistakes and do it as prominently as the original mistake itself?

(...other than that one time with the NY Post, who did because the whole world was laughing at them and it gave them a chance to sell more papers.)

65. Nobody - Kerry should show he is not afraid of anybody
But, his first priority should be returning American hero Helen Thomas back to her rightful place in the front for all WH press conferences.

However, Kerry's surrogates should all go around saying that, "unlike his predecessor, John Kerry isn't afraid to take questions from anybody."

68. It's not about being "afraid."
It's about punishing to slavish Bush whores with what
they fear the most. "How do you make whores cry?
Don't pay them."

These people are whores. (Hell, they gives real whores
a bad name.) They don't deserve a seat at the biggest
table in the world.

94. Fear is NOT the issue -- its Journalistic Integrity.
"Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" is NOT an appropriate question, and that is how many of the people listed are behaving. Slant is everything, and these guys are deliberately "slanting" the news, instead of providing the facts so the viewers can THINK FOR THEMSELVES about what it means.

Bad things (and bad decisions) will occasionally happen during the next eight years when Kerry is in office; good people will disagree on what should be done. But if the top "news" story is some rumor mongering "some people say" piece of fluff instead of a REAL "fair and balanced" look at the issues, these folks aren't doing their jobs, and they need to be "cut off" from the food supply. :)

99. You're right about Ms. Thomas
A suggestion: Mr. Kerry should make it a big deal at the first press conference. Make it in prime time. Halt the proceedings before the first question, saying, "Something is definately wrong here." Then, realizing where Ms. Thomas is in the back and where she should be, tell the Faux News reporter in the front row to get up, take his chair with him, have the chief of staff and someone else bring out a huge, comfortable throne for Ms. Thomas, befitting her stature in the press. Put it right in the front row where she belongs.

And make the back of the throne high enough to block Bumiller's view. :)

Actually, the seat behind the throne could be a "dog house" assigned on a rotating basis to reporters who "mess up", so to speak. A very funny way to publically get a point across without appearing vindictive.

Please.

We don't need to turn into them. We don't need Nixon-style enemies lists. Only phony dictators need to suppress the press. Real leaders do not fear scrutiny, even from Fox.

98. See #94 re: Journalistic Integrity.
We are ALL willing to take the hit when we make a legitimate mistake, and we are ALL willing to listen to different points of view when good people can and do disagree. HOWEVER, if we don't get some actual "fair and balanced" reporting, we will have another "Clinton" presidency problem -- what was the opportunity cost of the "Whitewater" fiasco -- you know, where the press hounded the issue and we spent millions of dollars over a $40K issue that TURNED OUT TO BE AN (Unreported) NOTHING? Remember the "wag the dog" stories when Clinton went after Osama? Compare/contrast to the SEC investigation that turned up $7.5 MILLION IN FINES at Halliburton when Cheney was CEO, and NO INVESTIGATION because the Press didn't demand one.

They have a job to do, and if they aren't willing to do it CORRECTLY -- ie, by displaying INTEGRITY, they need to be SHUT OUT.

77. You people are nuts.
This is the most absurd thread I have read in this forum.

You rail against journalists who shill for Bush but you expect them to shill for Democrats instead?

You don't want a fair press, you want a compliant press. And anyone who strays is to be shut out.

Vent all you want about the bias you see. There is certainly plenty of it. But get a grip.

Better to deregulate their corporate ownership.

Win an election, win the midterms and get a congress, appoint some Justices, win a second term, anbd swing the meat-axe.

This follows along the 'We Win Nothing In November If We Win But The Chance To Win' theory I've been trying to preach. The asshole 'journalists' are small fry by comparison to:

1. Media reregulation;

2. Overthrow of Santa Clara v. Northern Pacific;

3. Overthrow of Buckley v. Valeo.

We get those done, and the whores will be flushed as a matter of course.

102. Corporations, by their nature, are Short Term thinkers.
We are going to have to deal with these problems for years, and unless/until we can take over congress (and let me tell you the morning I've spent at a local headquarters is NOT making me incredibly confident about that), we won't even have the opportunity to start going through the regulations, etc. The regulatory process takes forever for a reason; better instead to go for the jugular and solve the short term problem by DEMANDING JOURNALISTS BEHAVE WITH INTEGRITY. This is going to put journalists in a tough spot -- report accurately, or keep your boss happy? Hmmm. Whatever will they do? Bosses are not happy, however, when their reporters are denied access, so I'm thinking its going to be a pretty quick shake-up and basic Journalism 101 standards should start coming into vogue pretty quickly. :)

I think Walt has a good idea going, and I think Kerry's communications people should start working on it. I've said it a couple of times now -- mistakes will be made by our guys, and the press wouldn't be doing its job if they didn't report them. Reasonable people are going to disagree about appropriate courses of action. Identifying this type of situations versus the "Evil Kerry" sound bytes is NOT difficult. The Daily Show does it simply by asking "follow up" questions: "Most liberal senator according to who?"

Its hard to be a journalist -- you have two masters: the provider of the paycheck, and the people who trust your integrity. Those who behave with honor are respected; the others are called Media Whores for a reason. Reward journalists -- revile publicists. :)

96. Ron Brownstein and who could forget Scarborough
We need to get an email list of these "journalists" who report inaccuraries and sound-off IMMEDIATELY. If we have a list of emails like hardball@msnbc.com to go straight to and not have to go to the site to look around it would make it much easier and more successful. Going to these sites to find an email address is exhausting sometimes. I think they deliberately make it difficult to avoid the mail.

103. something a bit wiser
Actually Kerry has to clean out the whorehouse, the Washington press corps and give the girls some old time religion- enabling them to do their real jobs in such a way as they will NOT ever go back to being a self-important peanut gallery. Acting like Bushco will only perpetuate the problem. Schmoozing or punishing and further degrading the cancer stricken profession is just more Bush work.

They will need- without kissing and making up so the peacocks can snipe at the harmless Dem- to get involved with the truth again and serving their profession and country AND getting out from under the privatized monopolized monolith of journalism. The might start by disenfranchising the privileged corps and getting more guest journalists from small papers around the country where the Repukes are not conspiratorial millionaires but at least honest Conservatives- if there are any left. More alternate media, but don't enthrone them. That is what causes all the ego behavior problems.

The editors behind the scenes are very often more important than the performers. Open the info flow directly to them not to their paid entertainers. Dump the secret source technique for more honesty so it will be easier to discredit fake leaks. Change the modus operandi completely. That will be breathtaking punishment enough. Many of these overpaid opinion makers would wither in fresh air. In fact, they are all getting old without having achieved any stature or achievement commensurate to their touted access and primped up star status. real journalists should make them sit very uneasy in their smug, unresearched incompetence.
