HERE'S a way to WAKE UP the apathetic!!
Go to www.costofwar.com

Choose your state under "See the Cost in your Community"

Then click on one of the items under "Compare to the Cost of"

GREAT EXAMPLE:

Ohio's "contribution" to the Iraq War is 5,504,586,000+
THAT'S 5 BILLION DOLLARS THAT OHIO Residents have contributed towards this war!
(they get this figure through percentage of federal tax dollars paid)

Now, click COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS, and we find that FOR THE SAME MONEY, Ohio residents could have given 139,621 students 4-YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS to college!!

According to this site http://nces.ed.gov/pubs2002/snf_report/table_06.asp
about 120,500 students graduated from high school in Ohio this year!

If I were a resident of Ohio who lost my job to outsourcing, and now I am wondering HOW in the world I can afford to send my child to college (THE great American dream) this is one statistic that is going to make me angry about the REAL cost of the Iraq war.

People don't realize that IT'S COMING OUT OF THEIR POCKETS, and OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN ARE GOING TO PAY FOR IT!!

At www.costofwar.com you can break it down by EACH STATE.
I think THIS is the kind of information that would be great to write in local letters to the editor, and get out there any which way we can!!

1. thanks for the link
We had all kinds off cuts in programs here in my town. They just had to close down a substance abuse treatment clinic because of lack of funding. And this at a time when we fight a major meth problem here in town.

That shows this Administration's "compassionate conservatism" ... Rush is called a hero for having enough money to go to one of those rich peoples' treatment centers ... poor addicts should just go f*ck themselves...

2. Yes, you could figure out what that money
could have saved in your state, or what it could have accomplished.

3. Children & grandchildren stuck with he tab AND a world where they won't
be able to make a decent living if things keep going as they are now. THAT is important to bring up to those sitting on the fence about this election.

The American worker is sinking fast and it needs to stop soon. To stop the policies making this happen, we need to clean the corporate puppets out of both houses of Congress too. The nation does better when the people do better. We need to hire ONLY representative who understand that and defend the American workers. This business of business writing the legislation to make whatever they want legal and whatever they don't want illegal has to stop.

What's that quote about government + corporations = fascism
