Edwards response to Cheney scare tactics....

"Dick Cheney's scare tactics crossed the line today, showing once again that he and George Bush will do anything and say anything to save their jobs. Protecting America from vicious terrorists is not a Democratic or Republican issue and Dick Cheney and Goerge Bush should know that." Edwards added that he and Kerry "will keep America safe, and we will not divide the American people to do it."

Classy.

1. I have to admit it... Edwards seems nice even when he's angry.
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 10:18 AM by MallRat
If you see the clip of him making this statement, you'll understand what I mean.

:-)

3. Too nice
A little outrage would have been appropriate here.

6. I trust he knows what he's doing.....really.
He's a trial lawyer. I don't think that's a bad thing, by the way. He knows how to work a message. He makes Cheney look Neanderthal by comparison.

7. You might want to watch the clip
His rapid eye-blinking and gulping didn't exactly exude any anger over such an outrageous statement by Cheney. Edwards showed more indignation over Dean's confederate flag statement during the primaries than Cheney's claim that he and Kerry won't protect us from terrorist attacks.

9. Perhaps you should contact the campaign & offer your services as
Edwards' image consultant. I can't figure out how he's gotten this far without your advice.

13. Nah
they'll continue to get my advice for free. It'll be up to the campaign to decide which they need more, a sycophant or a critic.

14. They need neither
But they definitely don't need armchair experts have nothing more constructive to offer than whining about John Edwards' physical affect.

17. So, you speak for the campaign now?
If not, perhaps you should read a post made by someone that does instead of whining about my posts.

My thoughts on the concern over strategy
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 07:40 PM by PeteNYC

The mark of a good fighter is one who can give a punch AND one who can TAKE one.

Kerry can do both, which is what makes him such a formidable candidate.

IMHO, it's perfectly fine for people here to express their concern, and they shouldn't be berated for doing so. No one said this would be an easy fight, but it's a fight Kerry and Edwards WILL win, to the immense dismay of the rightwingers who've hijacked America.

Those who think the campaign should be doing X, Y, or Z should express themselves, but they should also remember that two months is a lifetime in politics. Some of you know I grew up in a warzone, and time operates differently when you're under fire or in a battle.

Kerry has that innate sense of timing that comes from experiencing combat, and we should trust his instincts.

22. He's absolutely right . . .
You have every right to express yourself about the campaign. And we have just as much right to challenge your recommendations. If you don't want to be challenged, perhaps you should just send private emails to the campaign rather than raising these issues on a public discussion board, thereby inviting comment about your posts.

Who is PeteNYC and how does he speak for the Kerry campaign?

24. You're welcome to whine about my posts all that you want but
you really should stop speaking for the campaign. You're not very good at it.

18. Edwards in not the right person to respond on Security issues. He
seems out of touch and lacks credibility. Hope someone in HQ sees this
and advised him to keep focused on domestic issues.

Edwards responding to Cheney on Terorism seems just to make Cheneys point, and I suspect that is the Rove strategy.

How does Edwards responding to Cheney on terrorism make Cheney's point? I'm not trying to be dense or insulting, I just don't get your point.

26. Edwards worked on Senate Intelligence Comm.
Here's a paragraph from his blog.....

As a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, Senator Edwards has worked tirelessly for a strong national defense and to strengthen the security of our homeland. He has authored key pieces of legislation on cyber, bio, and port security.

Why can't he comment on security matters? Besides, Cheney's statement was a crazy wingnut threat, not a serious comment on security.

5. Women voters
Many moderates and even some Conservative women are disgusted by Cheney and Edwards will bring in tons of female voters not just because he is attractive, but because he has the conciliatory demeanor many females appreciate.

15. Sounded threatening to me
He said terrorist attacks will happen if we vote for the wrong person. He didn't say they might or risks are higher, he said they will happen .

16. Worse - he told voters "if you make the wrong choice, we'll get hit again"
As John Edwards said, he's blaming the voters for terrorism.

What a cynical, ugly man.

12. There's a psychological theory....
maybe even a fact, that you can hate for so long and so hard that you turn into what you hate. Think maybe it applies here?
