My list of Kerry administration hoped-for goals
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 12:06 PM by WilliamPitt
In order for any of this to happen, we have to win this election, win the 2006 midterms and get a congress, appoint some Justices, win a second term, and swing the meat-axe. This is long-term stuff. It follows along the 'We Win Nothing In November If We Win But The Chance To Win' theory I've been trying to preach.

1. Overthrow of Santa Clara v. Northern Pacific: This was the Supreme Court case that established 14th Amendment rights for corporations, enshrining an age of rich 'super-citizens' which have used their massive advantage to take over the country.

2. Overthrow of Buckley v. Valeo: This was the Supreme Court case that said massive, unregulated campaign donations from the aforementioned 'super-citizens' is the same as free speech.

3. Media deregulation: Once we break the back of the ridiculous support afforded to the super-citizens by the two Supreme Court cases above, we can reinstate the Fairness doctrine and break up the conglomerates. We get this done, and the whores will be flushed as a matter of course.

These are pretty out-there hopes that I am not likely to see. But in the interest of keeping the heat on, let's see what we have to do in order to get the ball rolling.

1. Win in November;

2. Organize with the groups that came out of the Dean and Kucinich campaigns to be able to swing 20 House seats in 2006, thus putting the progressives in a position to dictate terms to a Kerry administration that will be desperate after two years of Hastert and Frist;

3. Win the 2006 midterms and take back Congress;

4. Nominate however many Justices we will have available after the looming retirements from the bench;

5. Win again in 2008;

6. Begin organizing for an Edwards/Obama ticket in 2012.

These neo-cons have been working off a 30-year game plan. 30 years ago, the stuff they wanted was so out there that it seemed foolish to even discuss it. 30 years later, and they've gotten everything they wished for.

We should be thinking along the same lines, and doing the same thing. If these neo-cons have done anything for me, they have given me hope: In politics, anything is possible given enough time and enough money and enough sweat.

2. 2.A. Kerry Has To POUR Over All The Executive Orders
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 12:11 PM by Beetwasher
and new CFR's (Code of Federal Regulations) that Bush has instituted as well as ALL of his bureaucratic appointments.

These are very important changes that have been made unilaterally that required no legislation to implement and have far reaching consequences that most people don't realize.

Kerry is going to have to do some very serious house cleaning to elimiate all the little surprises that I'm sure will be left for him.

3. I would be happy with this....
3. Media deregulation: Once we break the back of the ridiculous support afforded to the super-citizens by the two Supreme Court cases above, we can reinstate the Fairness doctrine and break up the conglomerates. We get this done, and the whores will be flushed as a matter of course.

Informed citizens will take care of the rest... I hope. :hi:

4. To Dream The Impossible Dream.
A nice wish list. But, it seems that no matter what party affiliation the electee is or what they promise during the campaign, they change when they take the oath. One dollar equals one vote.

5. Herculean task ahead- gonna take more than 2 Johns (Kerry & Edwards)
to flush the shit out of those stables and whorehouses in DC.

But first, we must thrust the spear into the machine's gears and bring it to a halt.

:kick:

6. My list accomplishes much the same, plus a few other things...
1. One of Kerry's first acts as president, should be to issue an Executive Order restoring the Fairness Doctrine. A simple, and very effective way to help restore our democracy.

2. After firing John Ashcroft, and appointing Eliott Spitzer AG, steps should be taken to arrest and prosecute all those in this administration who have betrayed this nation, especially those in the Pentagon (neocons, Office of Special Plans, etc.). In addition, charges should be brought against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Ashcoft, for high crimes and misdemeanors while in office, and for gross malfeasance and complicity regarding 9/11, and the Iraq invasion.

3. AG Spitzer should immediately undertake prosecution against certain media corporations for violations of the RICO Act, and further, take steps to break up all media conglomerations. Again, executive orders could be used here if congress is less than complaint.

4. If Kerry has a willing Congress, or if not, again, through Executive Order, all political donations should be banned, and all campaigns publicly financed, from the local level, to national races.

5. Abolish the Electoral College.

Instituting #'s 1, 4, and 5, would immediately restore our democracy, and start to undo a a hundred year's worth of corruption. Numbers 2 and 3, would make sure that a price is paid by those who have betrayed and harmed this nation, and would, in the end, also strengthen our democracy.

7. Of course, media deregulation is of huge importance
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 12:42 PM by stellanoir
beyond all the other fine goals, I'd only offer up. . .restore democracy.

Void of checks and balances, the illusion of a representative government is almost a total fallacy at this point. With lobbyists' pervasive influence and BBV's this just about qualifies as taxation without representation.

"Absolute power corrupts. . .absolutely."

Hurrumphhhhh.

Almost time for a tea party.

8. Unsurprisingly enough, I couldn't agree more.
:)

I especially agree with the last part. I keep trying to tell people. We have to do exactly what the right-wing nutjobs did. Start small and build. The Mississippi is mighty but it starts in Minnesota at a place you could walk across without getting your feet wet.

9. Good list--I'd add universal health care
With a new Moore movie coming out on the subject, and lots of people being seriously ticked off on this issue, I think we are coming up on one of those "teachable" moments.

Of course it will require getting Congress back.

10. I cannot think of more worthy goals.
Seriously, nearly every gripe that supposed progressives have with what is seriously wrong with this country can fall under one of those three categories. Much of the rest can follow from these.

Not 2008 - right?
