Did you know that Kerry used to own a Bakery?
Before he ran for Lt Gov he started owned and managed a small bakery in Mass. I did not know that!

I just heard him discussing this live on MPR in his appearance here in Rochester MN when the question asked by an audience member was from a local bakery owner (and a damn fine bakery I might add).

He discussed, in context, the understanding he thus derived of meeting regulations, hiring and firing, staffing, supplying, etc. He sold the bakery, but noted it is still in business.

OK, note the differences right in this example.

1. Kerry takes questions live and unscripted - Bush cannot or will not.

2. Kerry managed to start his own business, run it, and keep it running. Which presidential candidate has the MBA?

3. Kerry has real life experience he brings to the job. He can discuss with clarity the applications of business and government interaction. He can do so from the standpoint of success. Being drunk and high, and a failure who is bailed out by family and friends until you are 50 is not credible real life experience.

3. That's very interesting
And should be used if only to point out the things that you've pointed out as well as to counter the meme that he's simply a rich, elite easterner who has nothing in common with the average American. We can all relate to the friendly neighborhood baker! ;)

The Gifford family's size is surpassed only by its eclectic success. Best known is Charles ("Chad"), who worked his way up from loan officer to CEO of FleetBoston, oversaw Fleet's $47 billion sale to Bank of America, and last month became chairman of the combined company. He's on an impressive roster of boards, including those of Northeastern, WGBH, the Symphony, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Chad's wife, Anne, makes housing and services for the homeless her cause, sitting on the boards of Wellspring House in Gloucester and Bridge over Troubled Waters in Boston and teaming up with Reebok CEO Paul Fireman as part of a panel on family homelessness. Brother John ("Jock"), a founder of the Cambridge and Nantucket architectural firm Design Associates, helped develop and has regularly appeared on WGBH-TV's popular program This Old House . His wife, Brigid Sullivan, is vice president for children's, educational, and interactive programming at 'GBH. The family also is a force in the restaurant industry: Jock designed and oversees Nantucket's popular Straight Wharf Restaurant, while brother K. Dun began his career in food by opening a bakery in Faneuil Hall in 1976. His partner? Longtime friend John Kerry. Also a former co-owner of the Harvest restaurant in Cambridge, Dun is founder and president of Oldways Preservation & Exchange Trust, which advocates healthy eating and sustainable food sources. Sister Bambi Mleczko made a name for herself as the first woman commodore of the Nantucket Yacht Club; her daughter A. J. played on the U.S. national women's hockey team, which brought home a gold medal from the 1998 Olympics.

13. and another
History aside, Faneuil Hall remains a good spot to nosh or take in a street performance by the myriad musicians, jesters and jugglers who make up with humor what they lack in talent. Unlike the food courts that populate suburban malls, this downtown emporium offers unique dining, from clam chowder (chowdah, please) to Malaysian to pastries at the Kilvert & Forbes bakery Kerry co-founded.

14. ah, here is the frosting on the cake
sorry :)

Kilvert & Forbes was originally created in 1976 when Quincy Market first opened its doors as the famous food colonnade.

At the time, founder John Kerry was practicing law, which he found to be “quite predictable and very boring”. So this chocolate lover and his friend and business partner K. Dunn Gifford opened the bakery and named it after their mothers, featuring family recipes. In 1982, Lt. Governor Kerry bought his partner’s shares of the business and sold them to Stanley and Linda Klein. A few years later, he sold his own shares to the Kleins. Even though Senator Kerry is no longer at Kilvert & Forbes, we hear that he still loves chocolate!
