More thoughts on *'s the rich don't pay taxes mantra
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 04:02 PM by Clark4Prez
Bush in a campaign stop said:

"Bush said taxing rich Americans won't work because they can afford to hire accountants and lawyers to reduce their tax burdens.

'They dodge. You pay,' Bush said to loud applause."

There are many logically problems with this position. If the rich aren't paying their fair share of taxes, how do tax breaks help the economy? Aren't they already getting tax breaks due to having accounts and "loopholes"?

The fact is, he is trying to set up for a flat tax push. By starting the belief that the rich don't really pay taxes anyway and use loopholes to their advantage, then it is easy to move to everybody should just pay x%, then those damn rich people won't get away with their loopholes!

Of course, as we all know with the 9/11 switcharoo, America will buy this lie hook, line, and oh so expensive sinker. But then it will be too late. Add that to the ever lengthening list of reasons why Bush must be defeated.

3. Right, a flat tax with no home mortgage deduction
thus removing the only tax shelter the working and middle classes still have, while undoubtedly keeping all those sweetheart deductions for the idle rich in place.

Clue phone: why not KILL THOSE DEDUCTIONS????

4. It is probably hard to decide: Accountant...or the multi-million $ yacht
Or should I buy the multi-million $ vacation home instead?

I just can't afford those expensive accountants...

5. Sounds like Bush can't do the job.
Bush has thrown his hands up in the effort to get the wealthy to pay their taxes, just like he gave up in the search for bin Laden.

Hey, Shrub, if you can't do the job, step aside for someone who *can*!

6. And the logic really fails
when you consider that his "stimulus tax cut" was targeted to the rich. If they dodge taxes anyway, why do they get a cut. And how do the spend more from a tax cut on taxes they don't pay anyway? Welcome to Bushworld.

7. Since the top 1% got something like 50% of the tax break, they were pay-
ing something, which they couldn't not pay until Bush told them they didn't have to pay it.
