W stands for aWol from the debates!

I've only seen slight mention of this today, with reference to the story saying he's afraid of partisan questions by dastardly operatives posing as scwhing voters

it's been mentioned that this has the potential to be quite damaging to the cowardly lyin's campaign, for obvious reasons

any word of the Kerry campaign's reaction to this?

does anybody doubt that they should just hammer the hell out of this, make it an issue until they decide what they're going to do about the townhall debate, and ride it all the way til November if they're foolish enough to chicken out?

Even if they decide to go with it, this STILL is an opportunity to excoriate the facade of Bush the strong and true--never wavering Prince of War and Peace. I can't believe they're being this stupid

what possible upside is there for them, unless there's some real, organic problem they're trying to cover up, and which they desperately fear will be exposed in this format

I LOVE this story

Please, Kerry campaign....USE this to ridicule the wimpy, waffling, wormy, weasely Dubya

1. story from UK
Republican officials said the president may back out of the second of the debates, due to be held on October 8 in Missouri. It comes as the election campaign grew increasingly vitriolic, with vice president Dick Cheney suggesting that by voting for Senator Kerry, Americans increased their risk of facing another terrorist attack.

But Mr Bush is also starting to feel the heat, with fresh questions about his national guard service and the impending publication of a potentially damaging book.

The second campaign debate is due to be held at the Washington University, at St Louis in Missouri. The first debate will be on domestic policy and the third on foreign policy. Republican officials insisted that the president was not afraid of going head to head with Mr Kerry. “It’s not a fear of the format,” a presidential adviser told the Washington Post.

“They want two debates that are focused on clear differences on foreign and domestic policy. We benefit from the differences.”

2. crappy story, really, but the first one I found
doesn't explain WHY they're not afraid of the format

why do they even mention it if they're not afraid??

4. I love these weasel words
"We look forward to these debates," Bush campaign manager Ken Mehlman said Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "We look forward to having a debate about debates. We will, in an appropriate time, which is shortly, talk about our intended participation."

3. Of course
But there is still time to do that. There is plenty of bad * news out there and we all know that the masses can only handle so much info at one time.

5. funny how that works.....they BENEFIT from the huge number of
depredations they've committed

nobody can keep track, and it's difficult to concentrate on just a few

however, THIS is one that should resonate, like Miller's crazed fulminations last week, and Cheney's idiotic comments the other day

Bush's COWARDICE in the face of a debate, when he's barely in front (if at all), is something which the public must be made aware of, as it flies directly in the face of his carefully crafted public image as the bold warrior president

that's ALL he has to run on, aside from smearing Kerry.

he has NO positive issues upon which to campaign

this is the sort of no-brainer the pugs would salivate over

6. hahahaha....quote from the Post
Mike Allen writes in The Washington Post: "President Bush may skip one of the three debates that have been proposed by the Commission on Presidential Debates and accepted by Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), Republican officials said yesterday.

"The officials said Bush's negotiating team plans to resist the middle debate, which was to be Oct. 8 in a town meeting format in the crucial state of Missouri. . . .

"The commission said participants should be undecided voters from the St. Louis area.

"A presidential adviser said campaign officials were concerned that people could pose as undecided when they actually are partisans."
