I hope it's no big surprise to you that Bush family members reserve the right to tell any lie to help themselves get elected, proving that the family is completely void of honor and integrity.

The most recent disclosure of Bush family lies centers around the recent right wing television ad that states (as if it were a fact) that "Senator Kerry was absent for 76% of (Senate Intelligence) Committee hearings".

The really sad/funny part is that while the narrator on the ad spews the right wing lie, the text displayed on the screen actually reveals the truth. (but you're supposed to listen to the narrator, NOT read the fine print)

That text doesn't say that Kerry missed 76% of the Senate Intelligence Committee hearings (like the narrator DOES), but rather, the text says that Senator Kerry missed 76% of the PUBLIC Senate Intelligence Committee hearings.

There's a big fat hairy difference between public, and private Senate Intelligence Committee hearings. The public hearings are merely dog & pony shows put on by the Republicans to try and convince voters that they are actually doing something useful, when the truth is that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING occurs at public Senate Intelligence Committee hearings. Think about it: What important intelligence would the Senate discuss in public? Obviously the answer is NONE.

Actual Senate Intelligence Committee hearings are held in PRIVATE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. Would anybody (other than a Republican) actually think that the public Senate Intelligence Committee hearings required Kerry's attendance?

Will the voters ever learn the truth about this ad, and the party that funded it? Will they care that the President willfully misleads them?

1. Is there a way to know how many non-public meetings he attended?

Because I got challenged on this exact subject the other day in my local town forum, and didn't know how to respond. But I see now that the doof who brought it up got it from their campaign site.

2. Unless Kerry or some other member

petitions the chair to release the roll call of the meetings, there is no way for us to know. It is, in effect, executive session of this committee and the law does not allow the release of the attendance without being petitioned by one of the people that attended.

This was directly answered several weeks ago on (I think it was) Meet The Press. You could look for the transcripts to get the answer that they provided word for word.

3. Those records have not been made public

I did a google search, and found several rnc press releases demanding that Kerry agree to have the private meeting records (including attendance) released. Not having access to those records didn't stop them from wrongly claiming that he missed 76% of those meetings.

4. That is certainly a repug trend

Another is, Kerry and Edwards are 1st and 4th most liberal voters in the Senate, remember that one?
What they omitted was that it was for 2003(only), not the entire term. Absolutely NO ONE in media called them on it, No ONE!
