KOS: Some stations Pre-empting 60 Minutes tonight
Preempting 60 Minutes tonight
by kos
Wed Sep 8th, 2004 at 21:59:19 GMT

I've gotten two reports of preemption of tonight's scathing report on Bush's National Guard years on CBS' 60 Minutes.
The first is from KWTV in Oklahoma City (it will air at 3:15 a.m.), the second from Indianapolis.

Both stations claim the move isn't political. Both claims are suspect, at best.

1. i thought Phx was doing the same since the "blurb" was about
Robert Duvall (the actor)

I checked the CBS website and it is the show about Bush, but no mention of it on my DishNetwork "summary"

4. They cried uncle in OKC!
Folks....
We won. 60 Minutes II will be played this evening at 7PM on News9 in
Oklahoma City.

There is NO DOUBT that your calls and emails and faxes made the difference.
We just spoke with News9, and they BEGGED us to send out a note asking you
to please stop calling - they're going to show the program.

Today, you showed News9 that folks in Oklahoma DO care about seeing all the
issues related to this incredibly important election, and that grassroots
really can make the difference - your voice was heard.

If you'd like, please email a simple "Thank you for showing Sixty Minutes"
to krier@kwtv.com and dutton@kwtv.com.

Please, no more calls to News9. Please forward this email to anyone you
may have forwarded our previous email to.

Regards,

Philippe Beaudette

11. I wrote to both and bitched them out for censoring 60 minutes
pretending I didn't know that they had already seen the error of their ways. I crack me up sometimes.

14. Amusing
Lets see how well "Texans for Truth" adverts do to Bush what Swift Boat Veterans have been trying to do to Kerry.

Some of this weeks polls in the battleground states show that the polls in these states are starting to reflect the leads Kerry had in them prior to the Swift Boat ads and the REpublican Convention. Wisconsin is coming back quite nicely into the Kerry column, when just a week ago, Bush was leading there. Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri as well are coming back into the Kerry column. As well as Pennsylvania. Kerry has picked up a slim lead in Florida again, and has taken back New Hampshire as well. Oregon, which also slipped into the Bush column last week, is again in Kerry's with a significant lead in this state Kerry at 52.8 percent, Bush at 43.1 percent. Kerry is leading in Washington state, but he has always had a firm lead there, even after the Swift Boat Ads adn the Republican Convention, but his lead has increased even more with Kerry at 52.7 percent, Bush at 44.2 percent.

Many things that reflect negatively on the one point which Bush is assumed to lead Kerry in, the war on Terrorism, are beginning to converge around the third anniversary of September 11th. Passing the 1000 count in Americans killed in Iraq, close to the anniversary of 9/11, with the grim reminder that the peopole who planned, financed, and trained the perperators of the events of 9/11 still being free will not do the Bush myth of being better prepared to keep us safe from terrorism good. The Bush Administrations claims that they are moving in on Osama bin Laden being totally contradicted by the Pakistani Government is something else that will hurt. The Pakistanis say they are not even close.

It appears that the Kerry campaign is beginning to play like the Bush campaign, attacking Bush's supposed strengths, and not just his weaknesses. Hitting hard at the fact that Bush is fighting terrorism where it is not, and avoiding going after it wher it is will work very well for Democrats. Kerry will likely very soon lay out very cldearly what he would have done differently. and is very likely to include having waited to attack in Iraq until there was agreement from the members of the security council to take part in the military and financial support for the war in Iraq, and utilizing resources that could then be spared to hunt down Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.
