Some text from bushie's interview with Connie Chung in 1988
CONNIE CHUNG: The problem, though, would be is if, indeed, made several phone calls or some people made phone calls on his behalf to get him into the National Guard. I mean, did that happen to you? Were you...
DUBYA (interrupting): No. I don't think so. But in those days, people were going into the service all different branches. And if you want to go into the National Guard, I guess sometimes people make calls. I don't see anything wrong with, a matter of fact I'm glad he served his country. And serving in the National Guard is serving in the military. They probably should have called the National Guard up in those days. Maybe we'd have done better in Vietnam.
-- Even in 1988, Dubya's dodges the question, while also managing to sneak in a backhanded compliment to the troops that actually fought in Vietnam, Interview with Connie Chung (NBC) at the 1988 Republican convention, New Orleans, Louisiana, Aug. 17, 1988

1. Actually, as with so many things...
... Dubya is wrong about not calling up Guard and Reserve units in Viet Nam. Several were, and they didn't do that well. Some reservists I talked to in the service said it was simply because the training time didn't prepare them for what they encountered (something that was partially true for active duty personnel, as well).

3. NO! somebody showed a clip on their news show
ABC or NBC, can't remember

I found this same quote at MRC, Brent Bozell's page, where they complained about how much harder on QUAYLE the media was in 88

can't find it now, but this is a quote the dems should use, and NOW that there's video of him saying it, they should DEFINITELY use that, too

4.  I see. The he referred to Quayle.
I thought it was Poppy talking about Dubuya. But that wouldn't make sense in 88.
