Listen Up - Any Attack Kerry Does Now Will Be Considered A "Response"
Remember what Clinton said on the Daily Show about attacks against him being opportunities? He said that he then had tremendous leeway, because whatever he said - no matter how sizzling - would be a "response" and not an "attack."

The GOP convention was a highly visible, sustained attack on Kerry at the basest levels. The media recognized it as such, although they went along for the ride.

But Kerry will be hard pressed to say something that the press won't follow-up with a paragraph recalling the nastiness of the Convention and the Swift Boat ads. If Kerry "brought on" the attacks by making Vietnam important, than the Bushies have certainly brought great vengeance and furious anger upon themselves.

I wish I could say there is method to Kerry's madness, but I doubt this was an intentional strategy. Nevertheless, a huge gift has been put upon his lap in the shape of a political bazooka. Let's f- some sh-t up. Bring it on.

I agree. At the same time, I think that there is some method to the strategy. We were both organized and, more shocking, nice at our convention. I had lingering questions, beyond the obvious shock value. I think you answered it, in part. They knew what the one-trick-pony Rove would do and set down the convention as a predicate with all the talk about being positive. I do think they were slow to respond to the Swift Liars but the initial move of saying 'hey, we're the good guys' is the perfect set up for what is to follow in the real campaign.

5. Look at Kerry's past campaigns...he's always been a counter-puncher...
...and he's gotten very good at it.

Kerry knows exactly what he's doing.
