Kitty Kelley’s “The Family”– The Inside Scoop & Dirt, Part 1
Email Rec’d - 09.09.04

”Insider’s News”, Vol 1.3, - 09.09.04 (Draft)
Kitty Kelley’s “The Family”– The Inside Scoop, Part I

Here’s some detailed information on Kitty Kelley’s new book, The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty. I’m exhausted so please excuse typos and grammar.

The initial printing was to be 500,000, but this week they increased it to 600,000. The expected full print is 1 million copies. Kitty Kelley was paid $4 million to write "The Family." It is a political hit piece, bought and paid for by Doubleday publishers but underwritten by Bush enemies.

They have indemnified Doubleday, though it's unnecessary since the book will sell very well, and place quite well on all major Top Seller Lists. People love rooting through other people’s trash, particularly people of power. Besides, the Bush-betrayed will see that the word gets out. Gosh, I’m sure glad we don’t know any of these disgusting Repubs,…do we..lol!

I’m impressed how Doubleday has set up the marketing and promotion side for the Book, and are doing a good job of keeping it under wraps. Their attorney’s went through the book’s draft and final with a fine tooth comb twice. They have the book placed with almost 50 different retailers. On the larger outlets they have guaranteed residuals, and paid upfront promotion fees.

For this type of book, overall it’s pretty well documented, thorough, and will probably convince a large number of average readers. Next week Kitty hits the talk show circuit, with a three part interview on the NBC’s Today Show with Matt Lauer, Dateline, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, MSNBC Hardball with Chris Matthews, CNN with Aaron Brown, MSNBC- The Don Imus show, Late Night with David Letterman, Live Regis and Kelly, and we understand much more TBA.

After Kitty’s talk show tour she is doing a large promotional tour in Texas. First stop is Karl Rove’s home city of Austin, and the Texas Monthly is writing an article and backing her. The Texas Monthly has been an institution for the Bush Family for 15 years, and never written a negative word about them. Like many of us, all that has changed and the Bush’s are going to get everything they deserve. After Austin, Kitty does similar appearances in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, then hits the smaller Texas markets.

The Austin market has been softened up for Kitty’s appearance, by none other than Larry Flynt, who spoke at the University of Texas last week promoting his book:
Sex, lies, politics and Larry Flynt: The Naked Truth
(Getting rid of George W. Bush and his Administration)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0758204833/102-3463721-1125747?v=glance

Larry did a great job and there was a huge attendance. Here was his schedule and several articles:
Monday 8/30/04 - Larry Flynt in Austin:
7 p.m. discussion - BookPeople, on the corner of Sixth and Lamar (Same store Kitty Kelley will appear)
9:45 p.m. signing and showing of "The People v. Larry Flint"
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

Tuesday 8/31/04 - 8 p.m. Lecture
Jester Auditorium
Hosted by Students for John Kerry

The Daily Texan - 8/30/04
Sex, lies, politics and Larry Flynt: Getting rid of Bush
Hustler founder to promote anti-Bush book, speak at UT

The Austin Chronicle – In Person, Larry Flynt – 9/3/04
http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2004-09-03/books_inperson.html

While they state otherwise in public, the Bush-Cheney-GOP is very concerned about Kitty’s book release, and are scrambling. I think the “Dem Friends” got the Bush Family Mafia’s attention when a full page ad for Kitty’s book mysteriously appeared in 20,000+ Republican National Convention’s Guide books they got stuck having to use in New York City. Gosh, every time I think about it I start laughing...slick!

More importantly, John O’Neill and his Dixie Cup Clowns for Bush, with their 2-bit book and KKK publisher Regnery, are going to get a first class education on how the real pros run a big time smear campaign. – jj

24. an unimpeachable 3rd party says Kitty is telling the truth vs Sharon lie
But seems unimpeachable 3rd source says Sharon lies, Kitty truth teller
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/230275p-19

Kitty: More support for Bush coke use

Sharon Bush tried to back away yesterday from quotes Kitty Kelley attributes to her in her new slice-and-dice book on the Bush family - but she may have backed into a smoking gun.

..."I categorically deny that I ever told Kitty Kelley that George W. Bush used cocaine at Camp David - or that I ever saw him use cocaine at Camp David. The one time I met in person with Kitty Kelley, she mentioned drug use at Camp David. I responded by saying something along the lines of, 'Who would say such a thing?'"

...But Sharon has one small problem: There was a third party at the lunch, an unimpeachable source who agreed to speak with us on condition of anonymity, who says Kelley's quotes are accurate.

"We met at the Chelsea Bistro on April 1, 2003," says our insider. "It was a very long lunch. Sharon was talking about affairs in the Bush family ... very dysfunctional. She said they talk about family values, but they don't practice what they preach.

"Then Kitty raised the drug issue," our source continues. "Kitty, who can make a rock talk, said: 'I know about the drugs. I know that W did drugs at Camp David during his father's presidency.'

"Sharon agreed. She said, 'Absolutely. That's all true.'"

trawling through GOPA's chain of posts on this subject I found

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5868734

Author Kitty Kelley is touting her latest title in enemy territory. A full-page ad for “The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty” is appearing in today’s Republican National Convention Guide, which is distributed to 20,000 conventioneers, staff and others. Kelley's book, which will be published Sept. 14, contains over 700 pages of Bush dirt and scandals. . . . Looks like Michael Jackson’s star continues to wane at MTV. The network’s Video Music Awards has quietly done away with the honor named for Jackson that they’ve handed out for 10 years. . . . Maybe Russell Crowe didn’t bite his bodyguard’s ear after all; he bit the guy’s chest. In a letter to Australia’s Sunday Herald Sun, the bodyguard wrote, “He did take a nip at my chest — I was trying to smother him at the time, so I can understand the move.”

PLUS THIS

http://www.suntimes.com/output/zwecker/cst-ftr-zp01.htm ...

Talk about moxie! Controversial tell-all biographer Kitty Kelley is now touting her upcoming biography of the Bush family at the Republican National Convention in New York. The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty is being advertised in the Republican National Convention Guide -- distributed to 20,000 delegates and staff members at the GOP confab! -

Apparently, CNN and especially Larry King are refusing to book Kitty Kelley on their network.

And according to today's New York Times, the White House placed a phone call to Neil Shapiro, President of NBC to ask him to boycott Kitty Kelley and refuse to book her on any of their shows.

26. Al Gore Totally Rips Bush better than Kitty Kelley – Excellent Read!
Gee, Gore needs a Chapter in Kitty Kelley's new Book. He rips Bush better than she does, LOL!-NKR

Al Gore Total Rips Bush – Excellent Read!

THIS WEEK IN THE NEW YORKER
Albert Gore Discusses President George W. Bush
http://www.newyorker.com/press/content/

Gore is very outspoken about the Bush Administration and its policies. "I wasn't surprised by Bush's economic policies," Gore says, "but I was surprised by the foreign policy and I think he was, too. The real distinction of this Presidency is that, at the core, he is a very weak man. He projects himself as incredibly strong, but behind closed doors he is incapable of saying no to his biggest financial supporters and his coalition in the Oval Office. He's been shockingly malleable to Cheney and Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz and the whole New American Century bunch. He was rolled in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. He was too weak to resist it."

Gore also says that while he is not of the school that questions the President's intelligence, "I think his weakness is a moral weakness. I think he is a bully, and like all bullies, he's a coward when confronted with a force that he's fearful of. His reaction to the extravagant and unbelievably selfish wish list of the wealthy interest groups that put him in the White House is obsequious. The degree of obsequiousness that is involved in saying 'yes, yes, yes, yes, yes' to whatever these people want, no matter the damage and harm done to the nation as a whole—that can only come from genuine moral cowardice."
Gore, a Southern Baptist says of Bush's kind of faith, "It's a particular kind of religiosity. It's the American version of the same fundamentalist impulse that we see in Saudi Arabia, in Kashmir, in religions around the world: Hindu, Jewish, Christian, Muslim."

27. What do you mean by "underwritten by Bush enemies"?
What's your source?

Please supply a link to evidence that somebody besides Doubleday is behind this book. We know that Bush supporters sponsored the Swift Boat guys. I thought Doubleday wanted to make some money with a proven best-selling author of gossipy biographies; but you seem to indicate the book is Democratic propaganda ("Friends supporting the Democratic cause"). Details, please.

Having lived in Texas most of my life, I, too, know what Republicans do.

29. KITTY KELLEY'S PUBLISHER SEEKS DAMAGES FROM NEWSWEEK
Kitty Kelley publisher seeks damages
By HILLEL ITALIE,. AP NATIONAL WRITER
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/artandlife/apother_story.asp?category=1404&slug=Kitty%20Kelley%20Book%20Newsweek

NEW YORK -- The publisher of Kitty Kelley's controversial new biography of the Bush family has accused Newsweek of allegedly violating a prepublication agreement and said the magazine owed "substantial damages." "We demand public acknowledgment and additional remedies," Stephen Rubin, president and publisher of the Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group, said Thursday. Rubin declined to say how much money Doubleday was seeking and whether the publisher would sue. A letter sent this week to Newsweek editor Mark Whitaker cited a signed confidentiality agreement reached in August in which the magazine promised not to disclose details of the book before publication. Newsweek was to receive an early copy.

According to the letter, Newsweek violated the terms when correspondent Howard Fineman appeared on Don Imus' radio show Tuesday and "disparaged" the book, saying the magazine would not publish excerpts because of questions about Kelley's reporting. The letter also noted a Washington Post report that Newsweek had decided not to run an advance story on "The Family," citing similar concerns. The magazine had allegedly promised such an article. "In reliance upon such representations, Doubleday turned down an offer from Newsweek's major competitor (Time) to publish a news story," reads the letter from Katherine Trager, general counsel for Random House, Inc., of which Doubleday is a division. "This flagrant disregard of basic principles governing the prepublication review of books is unprecedented" and entitles Doubleday and Kelley to "substantial damages."

31. TODAY'S KITTY NEWS: NBC SAY NO TO GOP-KITTY ON ALL NEXT WEEK!
Email Rec’d 09.10.04-15:36

As of this afternoon NBC has refused to drop any of its television interviews with Kitty Kelly, including the 3 part segment on the Today show next week. So we will see what happens with the book release next Tuesday and her jaunt through the media gardens.

Presently “The Family” is #4 on B&N and Amazon, and will be #1 on both next week, along with hitting #1 on the New York Times Best Seller List.

Also noticed the GOP ops are buying O’Neill’s “Unfit for Command” book like mad to keep it at the top of the book charts. No way that limited print, two-bit, yesterday’s news book can compete with “The Family” with a total planned printing of 1 million copies and retailing through almost 50 distributors . It will engulf them like Hurricane Ivan.

This was in the WSJ today: Could the White House assault be boosting one of its least favorite authors? - "A Republican attack on author Kitty Kelley's forthcoming biography, 'The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty,' is helping to build advance demand for the title scheduled to hit bookstores Tuesday.

"At a time when political books are leading the ranks of nonfiction bestsellers, 'The Family' is expected to be one of the biggest titles in the critical fall season. Bookseller Borders Group Inc. yesterday ordered more copies of 'The Family' based on the media attention the book is receiving. 'We expected it to be a big seller, but now we want more,' said Mike Spinozzi, Borders chief marketing officer." Copies now in print: 720,000. and No. 4 on Amazon this morning.
