I just finished listening to John Kerry on "The Tom Joyner Show"
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 08:36 AM by CatWoman
for all of you who are not familiar, Tom Joyner is the radio voice of most of the African American community.

I was very impressed with John, as was Tom Joyner's staff.

He gave a big belly laugh when Tom's staff lamented the thought of Clarence Thomas becoming the next chief justice :D

But what I didn't like was the way the interview started. Tom came out the gate asking why Kerry isn't fighting back against the Bush attack machine.

I know John is fighting back, and you know it, but what bothers me is that the uninformed American -- those who depend on cable for news -- fall prey to the "filter".

I watched that filter at work last night on Aaron Brown's show.

These people just make shit up, and all of their reporting tends to have a pro Bush slant.

Kerry has to find other ways of getting his messages out.

1. What was Kerry s response to the question?
I think there may be a difference of opinion on fighting back.

Also, going on the offense first, will prevent needing to be on defense.

2. Was he on this morning?
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 08:37 AM by RatTerrier
Bummer, I get Tom Joyner in this market. Joyner's pretty good. He appeals to a black audience, but he is the biggest name in black radio syndication, and he does a lot in the communities. And he's a leftie. Bill Clinton used to go on his show.

Good move on Kerry's part. Screw Imus. Nobody listens to that crabby bastard anyway.

7. Tom Joyner is no "liberal" or "conservative"...
He is a thinking, objective person who (thank God) has a national forum for his thoughts and opinions. Just like the Congressional Black Caucus, Joyner is a voice in the wilderness these days. If only more of "White America" would tune in to him, and more of "Black America" would follow his outstanding advice and VOTE!!!

11. hi Catwoman....
i heard the same interview this a.m. Have you noticed that Tavis Smiley's commentaries, of late, seem really anti-kerry? i think maybe sometimes he goes overboard not to appear biased, maybe? in his commentary, prior to going on a two week vacation, he posed the question, "what if black america stayed home on election day"? that was pretty much the last straw for me, i think i felt betrayed. because tavis knows full well, what the USSC may look like if we get another four years of (*).

maybe, i'm just being overly sensitive?

12. I think Smiley is anti-bullshit
if anything. I am so, so, so impressed with the very few media reps (whether anchors, "reporters", or commentators) who will step up and call it like they see it, especially when it may mean criticism (or praise) of ALL candidates wherever it is merited.

If you listened to his segment on this morning's show, Tavis started out with a couple of tough (but fair) questions he would ask Kerry if given the chance. And he ended up with a dead-on summation of Bush that was hilarious AND scathing.

Follow the link and listen, everyone. This is good stuff too often dismissed by the mainstream.

13. sorry, I missed Tavis
but I'll keep this in mind.

I need to catch all of the broadcasts, and not keep flipping the dial.

16. I give up
Still can't believe there are only a handful of us at DU interested in what's on the TJMS. I would have thought if nothing else, any Democratic strategist worth their salt would be monitoring Tom and Tavis and would jump into a thread like this.

Oh well, I was still very happy to enjoy today's Tom Joyner show with a few kindred spirits! Have a good night, everyone...
