How will you honor the memory of 9/11 victims this Saturday?
I'm going to honor the victims of the Bush Administration incompetence by sitting in stunned silence for eight minutes reading "My Pet Goat".

How about you?

1. I'm going to go out and register voters. And pray a lot that God will
deliver us from evil, including the evils of the Bush administration, the PNAC neo-con-men, and the rabid extremists of ALL religions, who give a bad name to people of true faith everywhere.

5. I'm doing voter registration to help get Dems elected so we can have real
homeland security against another 9/11, instead of bush sending money to Iraq, for wars that only benefit their corporate investments.

7. New Orleans Style Memorial "Second Line" Parade/Voter Reg Outreach!
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 10:57 AM by funkybutt
Get Your Act On (a local activist group) is organizing a traditional, New Orleans-style jazz "Second Line" march for Saturday, September 11th, to encourage voter registration. A "second line" is very similar to what happens during a jazz funeral down here. It's a celebration of the lives of the deceased. A unique New Orleans way to take something negative and turn it into something positive. This will be a walking parade with brass bands that will cruise through some of New Orleans most disenfranchised neighborhoods. We'll have 3 stops, at which voter registration tabling will be done. At the final stop, a memorial ceremony will be held for the victims of 9/11 as well as tthe lives lost on all sided in the wars on Iraq and Afghanistan.

8. I've started a small personal ritual...
I'll light a candle in honor of the victims and pray for them and their friends and loved ones. Basically it's one huge prayer for all of NYC. I kept the Time and Newsweek special editions from that day as well as the local newspaper and a miniture US flag I received at a vigil. I'll probably pour myself a larger than normal glass of wine, look at the pictures in the magazines, and cry. It's impossible even now to look at the photos without crying.

I'll invite my husband to sit down with me while I do this and when my daughter is old enough, she will too.
