12. Hey, I lived in London for 5 years as a young woman!
'course those were the days of no internet and bad telephones!

I slept thru 1/2 the day in 1980 before I read a headline talking about "President Reagan's landslide".

Much better news to Europe now!!!!!

21. I love England & Wales. My husband and I visit there often. Where do you live in London?
I would love to be there tomorrow to listen to the news coverage of the U.S. election.

I won't be here tomorrow - weirdly, I'm flying into the US to do my permanent visa tomorrow morning. I hope I sleep on the plane!

7. Nope, my husband (British) is wisely sleeping, although he is fascinated
by the whole process. But I'm on DU and Twitter and other sites so I'm sharing it with other Americans. :)

However, there are many all-night election parties going on amongst our friends and in pubs/bars.

16. Yup. I have to come back to get my permanent visa.
Can't do it from here, it's a weird process. I'll be back there for a couple of months, probably.

Very happy times. :) Been a long time coming! :hi:

18. Well, geez, it looks like some things haven't changed since I lived there!
I had to jump thu hoops to get my residency as well!

Finally, I was able to apply for Canadian citizenship (my mom was born in Saskatchewan) and since I'm a 3rd generation Brit, that opened all the doors.

But back then, tea was 6p a box! Thatcher ruined that country re how expensive it became. (Man, am I dating myself!)

Anyway, if I were you, I wouldn't be able to go to bed either. Ready your box of tissues for when Barack gives his acceptance speech probably at 6 am your time!

20. My process shouldn't be too hard. I'm married to a native Brit.
But 9/11 affected the UK too, in that Blair made things a lot more conservative re: immigration. So it used to be I could have come right in, no problem. But post-9/11, I have to do the biometrics thing from the U.S.

I don't anticipate anything being complicated after that, but you never know with fucking immigration, do you? :eyes:

Food is surprisingly cheap here, but almost everything else is unbelievably expensive, especially in London. The amount we're paying in rent right now, for what we get, almost sounds like a joke. Ouch!
