ATTENTION ALL VETS: Prepare to Return Your Medals to the AWOL Coward in Chief
by Natasha H. (age 13)
This writer is opposed to all war and fighting but feels tremendous respect for those men and women who have risked their lives to do what they felt was needed to protect our way of life. Like George W. Bush, this writer has never been on a battlefield during combat. Unlike George W. Bush, this writer did not get strings pulled so that another person would die in this writer’s place on a distant battlefield. Unlike George W. Bush, this writer never deserted or went AWOL.
Throughout the history of this country, men and women who have had the courage to defend this country have been honored and recognized for their heroism. My great grandfather received a purple heart. I never saw his injury because he died before I was born. However, I was told the injury affected him for the remainder of his 97 years on this Earth. Thank goodness someone didn’t point out that anyone who lived to 97 didn’t deserve his purple heart because his injury must not have been that traumatic.
When up against the Bush Destroy All Vets Machine, it is very difficult for veterans to look like patriots. Men came back from Vietnam in body bags. But if you look at the Republican propaganda, Vietnam was a Love Festival where everyone was hugging and kissing each other. A great many veterans lost arms and legs. Some received other injuries that never healed. Agent Orange was dropped on American soldiers.

There is another issue of heroism that needs to be discussed about this “war president.” After 9/11, President Clinton made it to the site of the New York disaster long before Bush did. In fact, it took Bush three days to act like a Commander in Chief and visit the damage which took place in his own country. Bush’s plane initially took him away from the danger. Apparently, the life he cared most about on 9/11 was his own. He has chosen to send boys and girls into harms way for his lies and to fight wars so his backers could reap large profits. Too many of these American boys and girls have been killed. America needs a leader who cares about something more than his own skin and profits and who will avoid wars whenever possible. It takes no courage to send boys and girls to kill a helpless enemy. It takes courage to find a way to make peace and to make the world work without war.

What is really neat is that even kids see through Bush for what he is.
