Cheney: Blame CLINTON (2 days out of surgery) for terror, economy
I guess the 'crocodile prayers' for the former President are over, as Cheney wasted no time in blaming Clinton for all the woes of this administation...

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/07/politics/campaign/07mates.html

He blamed the Clinton and Reagan administrations for teaching terrorists that "they could strike us with relative impunity" and that "if they hit us hard enough, they could change our policy." Mr. Cheney cited the attack on United States Marines barracks in Beirut in 1983, in the first Reagan term, along with the 1993 killings of American soldiers in Somalia, a 1996 truck bombing at a housing complex in Saudi Arabia where many Americans lived, the 1998 bombings of two American embassies in East Africa and the attack on the destroyer Cole in Yemen in 2000....

On the economy, Mr. Cheney said Mr. Clinton left office with the country on the road to a recession. Then, he said, the Sept. 11 attacks dealt another serious blow to the economy, but he cited recent gains as signs that the president's policies, including tax cuts, were working.

We sent our troops to Somalia to capture a militia leader and despite the blackhawk down incident, were successful in doing so. We left Somalia because we never should have been there to begin with--that was a war George I started after Clinton had been elected and Bush was lame duck.

The embassy bombings were answered with cruise missiles and the Cole was bombed in Clinton's last weeks before the election. He was not going to fuck over whoever took office (unlike his predecessor) by starting something then leaving it to the next guy to deal with.

on edit: so how does this fit in with "if Kerry is elected we're all gonna die" rhetoric. Obviously, if we get hit within the next 22 years, it will be the chimp's fault.

Colin Powell that's who.

Admitted it during Senate Armed Services Committee hearing in 1995.

11. The press already has blamed Clinton for HIS OWN DISEASE
<snip>
Chief of Cardiology Dr. Allan Schwartz says, "Without surgery there was substantial likelihood of a heart attack in the near future."

Experts agree, saying the opertaion came in the nick of time.

Doctors say Clinton made another health mistake when he stopped taking cholesterol lowering drugs after he went on the South Beach Diet.

14. "On the road to a recession"
Now they are changing their words again. Before they claimed that they left them in a recession -- now it was merely on the way to one. Same way that Iraq is now guilty of weapons of mass destruction-related program activities, instead of actually having WMD's.

The economy likely would have slowed down in 2001 no matter who was president -- economies naturally move in cycles and the Clinton years represented an eight-year upswing of historic proportions. That wasn't going to continue on forever, and the dot-com bubble bursting was going to cause some corrections. The beauty of the Clinton administration's policies was that in good times, they built up a large surplus, so that they had something to fall back on in bad times. Short term stimulus packages would be a piece of cake -- and any brief, economic downturn could likely be overcome pretty easily.

As it turns out, the recession of 2001 was mild, and the irresponsible tax cuts have been responsible for the massive deficits we currently face. The economic cycles should have gone back on an upswing, but growth has been slow, so we've gotten little economic benefit for gutting the surplus. Now, if things slide backwards again economically, we're already wiped out. And we have the Baby Boomer retirements looming, as well as a potential energy crisis. And the Chinese and Japanese who we've borrowed from could always ask for us to repay our debt.

The Clinton boom years were remarkable. The Bush "recovery" after the mild 2001 recession has been weak, so the economy isn't even as strong now as it was in the Clinton years, EVEN THOUGH they've whipped through a huge surplus like it was nothing. Look at it like this -- if I moved into your house and took over your bank account and turned all your savings into massive debt, you'd like to see some evidence that the money went to something. You know, a Porsche in the driveway, flat screen TV on the wall, a boat, new furniture, something. After all, you've given me quite a nice gift by giving me a full bank account and I've driven you into debt. The Bush administration has gutted your savings and given you nothing but some receipts from the race track, losing lottery tickets, and maybe a few barrels of oil in the garage. Everything you worked hard for to save, all the sacrifices you made on things you would have liked to have bought are gone, and for what?

That's how Bill Clinton must feel -- there are an awful lot more things he could have done if he didn't place a high priority on deficit reduction.

15. I love Cheney!
Oh god, no I don't, however, I can just see all the Reagan Democrats running back home to mama. I hope he makes even more offensive statements because it's good for us and bad for them. What a piece of work. I'll never be able to fully enjoy a James Bond movie again because next to Cheney, all the villians seem lame.

16. This Is The Guy Who Ran On A "Responsibility" Platform
When has this guy ever taken responsibility for anything in his life?

WASHINGTON – President Bush staunchly defended the intelligence he used to launch war in Iraq Wednesday, but for the first time he accepted responsibility for his controversial State of the Union statement on Iraq's nuclear program and vigorously praised the embattled national security adviser who has been blamed for the misstep.

"I take personal responsibility for everything I say, of course," the president told reporters. Previously, when asked about his responsibility for the statement he had sidestepped the question.

In a press conference in the Rose Garden, the president also acknowledged that terrorist threats remain and conceded that his tax cuts did contribute to the return of federal budget deficits.

"In order to, you know, placate the critics and the cynics about intentions of the United States, we need to produce evidence," he said. "And I'm confident that our search will yield that which I strongly believe, that Saddam had a weapons program."

19. Did he blame Clinton on Halliburton's trading with Saddam in 1998?
Was Clinton responsible for Halliburton's European subsidiaries doing $24MM of business with Saddam....circumventing the US embargo?

Look up hyprocrisy and greed in the dictionary, they should have a picture of Dick Cheney there.

20. Move over Bagdad Bob, we've got our own D.C. Dick
Honestly, Dick is in a class all by himself when it comes to telling bald-faced lies that even my six-year old would question. No matter that the 9-11 commission found no WMDs nor a connection between Saddam and the twin towers attack, Dick says it's so!

On November 2, when even the most recalcitrant media whores concede that Kerry won by a landslide, Dick will be standing up on the stage saying something like "We win!"
