What did you do to get Barack Obama elected?
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 02:31 PM by LittleClarkie
I ...

belonged to an Obama team for my area
entered data
phone banked
canvassed my heavily Republican suburb
canvassed the inner city
donated
bought yard signs and gave them to Dems I knew in my Red area.
got supplies for the campaign office
called volunteers and asked friends to volunteer
Took off last week and half of this week for the election
Houdini'd
canvassed some more
was a greeter/gofer for GOTV

They say the suburbs had a lot to do with Obama's win. I feel like I had a part in that. The campaign didn't concede anything. We had groups in areas that have always been left to the Republicans. Up until the last four days that's where I was working. Sensenbrenner's district if that means anything to anyone.

So what did YOU do.

Stand up and be counted so we can give you some lovin'.

I phoned about 10 states during the primaries.
Recently, drove up to NH with some canvassers and hit Nashua.
Phonebanked, entered data until early morning, made many donations... but am most proud that I got one of my friends to register to vote.

Edit, there are a lot of unsung heroes today, so in order to avoid leaving anybody out, I want to say...
Thank you everybody! I love you all. We proved we can take back our country. Let's make good on the campaign promises and change this country!

Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 02:24 PM by DeposeTheBoyKing
I did the following:

1. Canvassed my precinct mostly by myself
2. Made hundreds of phone calls to recruit other volunteers and GOTV in battleground states
3. Canvassed a nearby precinct with others
4. Served almost every day of early voting as a poll greeter and stopped an idiotic election clerk from segregating people into two lines instead of keeping them all in the same line to vote
5. Did voter protection as an attorney poll watcher on Election Day
6. Put bumper stickers on my car
7. Put out yard signs
8. Registered people to vote
9. Bought a bunch of t-shirts and buttons
10. Incessantly talked about Obama to family and friends
11. Made several donations - so did my husband

Woo hoo!

I didn't even know what a houdini was until I had to be one. It was actually a nice way to spend the early part of the day. The only problem was the telephone number wouldn't work. We had to leave the polling place early and physically drive our results in to the staging location, just in time for them to be entered before the new walk lists were done.

We (the county) voted Bush in 04 - but had a 57-43 margin for Obama this year, which helped push the tide over the top for NC.

hosted a run/walk and phone bank and made calls while my son napped in the afternoon.

I really feel ownership of this election like no other time. Can't wait for re-election because by then my sons will all be old enough to truly help!

Okay, yes I can wait. I'm glad to put the fervor on the back burner a while and just chill a bit but seriously I am jazzed that they'll be 12, 10 and 7 next time and I'll have even more ability to canvass since they'll all be in school.

Donated money
Convinced a friend to register and vote for the first time ever (He's 34)
Convinced friends/family to vote early if possible and called them all on election day to make sure they voted
Data entry
Distributed Door hangers
Line Manager at the poll

I did what I was best suited to do, I think. Every little bit, right?

39. I...
arranged the purchase of 11,400 Obama yard signs for county parties around my state and distributed them
led one of two Obama teams in my county
held a house party - the first one in my county
recruited and scheduled volunteers
canvassed
phone-banked
entered data
donated
supplied and staffed a campaign office (25 miles from my house) for the last 53 days
put up door hangers
worked GOTV
poll watched
was a member of the voter protection team

And my usually red county went for Obama 56-43, in many of the areas we worked hard he won 60-70%. It was a hard slog, but I'd do it all over again.

Still, I had the luxury of time, so I called hundreds of NM and NV Democrats, knocked on countless neighborhood doors, donated, talked up, spread e-mails, hosted a great debate party, etc.

46. A lot
I donated money.
I phonebanked.
I canvassed and then starting this past Friday (10/31), I canvassed for five days straight, from three to seven hours a day.
I convinced my mother-in-law to register before Ohio's deadline and vote. I called her early yesterday morning to nag her, but she went first thing in the morning when the polls opened.
I made sure my immediate family voted; I tried to get them to early vote, only my one sister did. But yesterday, I called my mom and motivated her to go (she wasn't feeling well) and called my other sister, who was just finishing up voting.
I talked to everyone about how we need change.
I took a lot of abuse from the small minded and tried to change their minds.

I would do it all again, gladly.

belonged to Obama team for my area
registered voters in Georgia heat all summer long -- we made history here:-)
canvassed in RED state
made phone calls in red state
drove people to polls
volunteered for Election Protection
donated all of my money and then some
flew to swing state and worked there
made sure all of my colleagues and friends were registered, informed, and voted
yard sign
took off Tuesday (election day) for volunteer work
called volunteers and organized friends to volunteer, donate, or make phone calls from their homes
sent out requests for donations to local office
Digged and wrote LTTE, networks, etc demanding coverage, retractions, truth, etc.
talked to morons while volunteering and kept my temper
educated myself about the issues so I could talk to swing voters rationally and calmly
knowingly and with foresight made decision to jeopardize my work situation with my political views so that I could do what I needed to do
got a group together to donate their artistic skills to do pro-obama art/story

edited to add: data entry and most importantly, my county DID turn BLUE. the state is still being tabulated, probably RED still, but close. It's the senate race that is being examined now. But Obama took my county:-) I'm so proud of that! Last night, they called our state way too early and we were all devastated with the results. Turned out they had left out early voting, which was huge here and Obama led in early votes.

Basically, I haven't had a life for 6 months. Everyone I know teases me and asks if I will be sent to campaign detox now. They don't understand that the detox is a natural bi-product of Obama having won.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

62. Donated way more than I could afford, pestered my friends incessantly to also give $
educated people about Obama whenever they would listen, wore my gear and put stickers on my car (I live in a very red area) but I did not phone back and canvass as I should have, and I do feel guilty for that.
