Ok, I've had it - You sound like a bunch of girlie men
Every bad poll that comes out, the doom and gloomers come out of the woodwork and start shrieking that it's all over.

And when a poll comes out showing the race still neck and neck, it gets ignored.

Facts are facts. Kerry did not do well in August. Bush had a Kerry bashing convention which drove Kerry's negatives up. But we cannot relive the mistakes of last month. The job now is to push forward, run a tight, hard hitting campaign and fight our way back to the top.

Besides, if you look at the internals of EVERY SINGLE poll that has Bush up by more than 3 or 4 points, they are surveying MORE REPUBLICANS than Democrats, thus skewing the results. The polls that weight the results are far more in line with what is really going on.

Ronald Reagan was even further down than this at this stage in 1980. Reagan's campaign was in disarray and he reshuffled his top people. Carter was using similar tactics: making Reagan out to be candidate we should all be desperately frightened of. Reagan, in their debate, as we all know, deftly turned that around with humor and wit and went on to win decisively.

I believe this election closely resembles 1980. Bush is an extremely unpopular, failed President. The current polling reflects the extraordinarily late convention that the Republicans had - this is still their bounce, nothing more. Even if we're still down 3 - 7 points next week, that's easily turned around in the debates and in the coming weeks.

Buck up. Look at history. Don't let the Republicans use the media to discourage you. Fight back. Get even more resolved.

This thing will turn around and we will get our country back.

4. for every
phone call ito a republican household, in which the person says he or she is voting for Bush, I make believe it was said to avoid confrontation with his or her spouse or parents and he/she is going to vote for Kerry.

It's silly, but it helps.

Thank you for the much needed reminder

5. Let's not compare Bush to Carter OK?
But I get what you're saying. There's a serious need of some backbone in the Democratic party. I say a kick in the pants will send Kerry et all further along than a helping hand. The swift boat liars should have lit a fire under our collective asses. The nancy boys in this party need to take off their dainty little gloves and get bloody!

8. To be consistent--there's a 3' butt plug w/ your name on it
As I said when Der Gropenator used the term, there's a 3' buttplug that will be inserted in any orifice for using the term.

It was used as an insult and is demeaning. Give it up-- folks can wring their hands all they want, but using that term is not acceptable to some.

Have fun and just relax...

9. Offensive from Arnold,from DU
I was horrified that the media laughed at the term "girlie men" from the gov of Cali and I am devastated that the Democratic Underground are not sensitive enough to keep these posts off the site. I understand the point, but it can be made without offensive parodies.

10. Keep in mind ...
this is the WRONG war, in the WRONG place, at the WRONG time .... The 200 BILLION spent on this war could have funded the Department of Wellness and constructed a teacher corps which could alter education forever. The bad August JFK had was the result of many factors, but laser-like focus on the wrongness of the war and the money which it stole from the potential D.O.W. and education is going to influence this election decisively.

16. Overreaction
I was having a bad hour (you don't even wanna know) and I became overly-sensitive. I do see the humor in your comment, I just was a little peeved by the vagueness of your advice. How exactly are we concerned citizens to react to these disturbing poll results?
Apologies for the previous impulsive post.

15. Difference between 1980 and 2004
Carter had an approval rating that ranged anywhere from the high 20% range to the mid 30% range.

* has an approval rating either at or above 50% in most national polls.

That means a lot more people were ready dump Carter and were just looking for a reason.

Not to mention John Anderson going at Carter from his left flank.
