Deaniacs are coming through for Daschle. This makes me proud.
I would appreciate this thread not being turned into ugly stuff. We have too much at stake. Bill Frist and Dick Cheney have been pushing for John Thune. Do you really want that guy? We have so much at stake.

I am a friend and supporter of all centrist Democrats until November 2, then I will work my butt off to make them more progressive. Dean has gone so far as to say that the battle for the heart and soul of the party begins in November. $160,000 is nothing compared to what the GOP does, but it is a hell of a lot of money from smaller donations. There is a lot of power in those small donations.

Note from Sen. Daschle
Governor Dean asked the DFA grassroots to step up and defend a good man who has become the focal point of the hate-filled, fringe GOP leadership. The response was overwhelming -- to the tune of over $160,000 in less than twenty-four hours. Sen. Daschle just sent over this note of thanks.

Last night, Democracy for America supporters in this community received an email from Howard, asking that you consider contributing to my reelection effort in South Dakota. Already there has been an extraordinary show of support and I am deeply grateful. I know that email solicitations are coming at an unprecedented rate this year, but I appreciate you choosing to respond to this one.

My opponent, John Thune, has been running a strong campaign with the help of his friends. Prominent Republicans like Dick Cheney and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist have come to South Dakota to raise money and campaign with him.

In June I wrote a letter to third party groups asking them to stay out of South Dakota, but John refused to join me in that effort. Now, the NRSC has started a $2.4 million television ad buy that will run until Election Day. Groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Club for Growth have already run negative attacks against me.

The only way to stand up to this onslaught and keep the campaign about what's important for South Dakota and the United States is with your generosity and involvement. Please explore my web site and learn more about the most competitive Senate race in the country.

Dr. Dean and all of you who have been involved in his efforts have changed the way that many of us in politics view the Internet. I want to applaud this community for the energy, enthusiasm, and support it has offered to the Democratic Party, and specifically to my own campaign.

I thank you again for your political engagement and your commitment to a better America.

—Senator Tom Daschle

2. I was not a Dean supporter during the primary and don't feel that the
"wrong choice" was made for President. But I am glad Dean is own our side. Dean is a great man.

3. The primaries are over. Dean is working for congressmen.
I did not say anything about a wrong choice. Why did you say that?

6. Oh I am sorry- I guess you can't say that you didn't support Dean in the
primary but think he is a great warrior for our party. Sorry.

7. I was concerned with your use of the words "wrong choice."
I never used them, and I did not want this turned into an argument like the other one was. You put quotes around the words, yet I did not say them....they were not in the article.

That was what bothered me.

4. The part about kicking our soft teeth down our whiny throats got me

Typical Rethug rhetoric.

So, broke and in debt as I am, I put another $10 on the credit card for Daschle. Anybody that can survive a puke assassination attempt (anthrax) has to be a good guy. I'm glad people came through, particularly people who could contribute more than I could.

Go get 'em, Tom!

5. Yes, that infuriated me as well. Good for you!
We donated and sent a note as to why. I was very impressed he took time to post at the blog.

8. After I donated, I wrote an email to explain it was in Dean's name.
I gave some details of what we had seen here in right wing behavior, including the churches giving out signs supporting the war. I at once got back a personal mail, very supportive, from the campaign. It was a very nice letter. That means a lot.

10. This is good news.
I think Daschle is a crappy party leader in the senate. I wouldn't want him as majority or minority leader.

But I do hope he keeps his seat. That's ABSOLUTELY vital. It's also imperative that democrats hold their nose and vote for other moderate dems in bright red states like Oklahoma.
