That is, aren't there certain machines on the approved list? They wouldn't just go out and buy one with petty cash would they?

1. What's your point? What difference does it make to know how the...
...typewriter was purchased?

2. I am thinking there would be a list of the "approved" machines.

If a proportional spaced machine with superscript capability was on the list, then someone could have requested one. In fact, if on the list, it is likely that more than one was purchased. This could be a fed or state list, as the NG is in part a state operation. I know when I worked for the state many years ago it was easier to pick from the list than go outside. There would also have been a list of providers.

on edit
there might also be an inventory (or missing inventory) of the equipment at the site, as audits should have been required. The typewriter may have even had an assett numbr.

3. For Crying Out Loud
Get Real Here People.

What do you want to do FIND THE ACTUAL TYPEWRITER??????

Oh, My Aching Back!!!!!

Focus on the REAL ISSUES: Jobs, the War(s), etc.

Get off this obsession with the AWOL Scheiss and on to things that matter in the NEXT four years.

We are going to beat Bush on ISSUES; the AWOL stuff, Halliburton, Cocaine Use, and their ilk are issues that will be in the voters heads on NOV 2, but the MAIN ISSUES will be economics, security and prosperity.......That's what people will be voting on. These side issues will help, yes, but take the HIGH ROAD, please.

PS: As far as the idea that you can find the ACTUAL machine, just remember what the FBI did in the Alger Hiss case.
