Conspiracy
How's this for a scenario? The Bush administration "releases" forged Killian memos that it knows are forgeries, then secretly encourages technical experts to reveal that they memos are forgeries. Bush is thus the "victim" of a scurrilous campaign to impugn him, garnering rebound sympathy from a press now furious at being taken in by the very forgeries they themselves trumpeted.

I'm not saying this is what has happened. It's not absolutely clear that all or some or any of the Killian memos are forgeries. But, if they are, would anyone who has been paying attention to the political career of George W. Bush under the tutelage of Karl Rove be the tiniest bit surprised if it ever turns out that this is what happened?

1. We're on the same track
I was thinking the same thing. If it's accepted the memos are forgeries though - then where did the WH get them? I would expect they'd have to answer that question, but then again, they aren't accountable for anything, are they?

2. then it would mean the White House is involved in perpetuating
a forgery. (not that would't do it, but to do so blatantly would be the end)

4. That might be possible since a lot of Nixon's nasty little tricksters have
found a new home in the bush* administration.

6. It also immunizes AWOL Charges
I dont care what result of investigation into forgeries - you can bet the new RW meme - especially for us in the Net Community, will be "AWOL Based on What? Forged documents?" We get to hear about this forever. It was brilliant - and it went from RW Blogs and Message Boards to top level news in hours. That is quite amazing to me considering how hard we have to work to get anything in the news. Remember Walts stuff showing Bush wearing unauthorized medals? You still never hear anything about it in most news - you never will.

If we lose it is because of this ability of the RW to respond and get favorable press.

I am amazed at how fast main stream media jumped on this band wagon.

9. Prove it!
Throwing bs like this is what Rove wants. Stick with "these are Documents" until proven otherwise.
