Heads up: NPR stations will probably have fall pledge drive wk pre-NOV 2!
I remember in 2000, a week or two before the election, NPR started doing their pledge drives. So, news coverage dropped in fucking half. I guess, even if they had a full hour of news every hour, it's not like they would have helped Gore, but it was interesting that if you wanted news during that week, you were pretty much limited to cable. People were hearded towards the most blatantly biased news sources.

If you want to do something about this now, start calling your affiliates and ask them if they're going to do this again, and ask them why they can't wait until the week after the election. Tell them if they really want to hurt Kerry, they should cut their news reporting in half when they should be reporting on Kerry's wonderful victory.

3. And express anger and disappointment at NPR's rightward turn.
At this point, I do not intend to renew my membership. We have got to send NPR a message - and we can.

4. well they'll get $0 from me - just like last time...
...feel free to use their little contribution envelope if they send you one, to send them a letter with exactly $0 in it telling them why...or call the number they give out to give contributions and tie up their line telling them the same.

f*ck 'em

8. Write a note back telling them to get their $10 from Cokie and Juan 'cause
they seem to be the only people financially benefitting from the BS their shoveling on NPR.

7. How about a DU boycott of NPR?
I've never liked them, but I suspect that there are some DUer's who give to NPR and many, like me, who know a few people who could be easily dissuaded from giving. I think it's time to pick a target and make them feel the pain. These guys are about the right size for our little cadre.

Democrats have already effectively voted with their channel changers on CNN. Their ratings are down 50-60%.

NPR would be an easier target and put a notch in our belt.

I'll help if anyone's up for this.

14. Both of my local public stations are doing pledge drives.
I consider it a perfect opportunity to write them an email and point out that NPR News has become such a perfect mouthpiece for Bush, that I've decided to listen to the CBS affiliate for the real news. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's true.

I may still donate to the station that also carries the BBC, and does BBC at the top of the hour. They also have Laura Flanders and give Terry Gross prime morning time. (KALW- San Francisco)

15. Give to Pacifica Radio instead
Even though some of their commentators are Naderites and Greens, they have never ceased to provide factual and hard-hitting stories about the evils of the Bush Administration. Democracy Now! is one of the very best progressive radio shows in existence.

16. No-brainer
I once wrote to NPR to address a heavily biased report. The e-mail was business-like and complete with the appropriate links. After a week went by and I hadn't received a reply, I sent another e-mail, again with links and a request for my issue to be addressed.

Finally I heard from them.

NPR advised me to never listen to them or donate to them again.

Personally, I think it is just a matter of time before Big Bird starts leading the children in prayer.
