How Kerry Uses Swiftboaters for "truth" to his advantage.

Roshomon.

Kerry, in the debates comes out and says the following.

The fact is, I allow for these folks to believe what they want. This was their perspective on what happened. It does not fall in line with all of the evidence, and people can draw conclusions based on all of the different perspectives given, and either their credibility, or the fact that as humans we can see things differently.

This is what being President is all about - being able to see that everyone has a different perspective, that the world is not black and white - and that it is important that we look at the nuance before making huge policy decisions. This is why George W. Bush's policies have failed in every possible way. His supposed strong leadership is nothing but over-confidence, and a misplaced trust on advisors who are hardline hawks, out of the mainstream, and frankly moving this country into incredibly dangerous territory on both security and the economy.

What the President sees as his greatest strength I see as an achilles heel for our country. We must think things through before we act. Sometimes this means changing one's mind - or flip-flopping - as some political strategists like to refer to it. Had we looked at the nuance of the Iraq situation, we would have known we should not have acted without the support of a "real" coalition, not a coalition of A some willing Island states. We would have known the Niger/Iraq Uranium leak was based on forged documents, and one of the many premises for the war would have been debunked. We would know that the right way to lead this country is not by being brash and brazen, but by being thoughtful and wise.

Speaking of wisdom, a wise man named George W. Bush once said we must have a foreign policy based on humility - and no matter what he says now, September 11th did not change that fact... it reinforced it. The subsequent actions taken by the President, in direct contradiction to his own statements before the Supreme Court ruled in his favor, show that the George W. Bush we had before January of 2000 was far more capable of being President than the one on the stage with me here today. After he has run up the largest deficits in history, lost more than 1000 young Americans in the wrong war at the wrong time, and brazenly steamrolled his way towards seething resentment around the rest of the world, I must confess, I'd like to see a little more thoughtfulness put into policy and national security, and maybe a little more humilty. Bring it on, may rile up the base, but it also kills young Americans.

Lets work with the world to defeat terrorism. In dark times we need friends, not more enemies. George W. Bush also promised before the Supreme Court ruled in his favor that he would be a Uniter not a Divider. No flip flop there, he has united many of our enemies in a common cause against America.
