No seriously, it's the Democratic Party, we can never get along and agree about anything. Even on how to divvy up the spoils and reap the benefits. We can't even celebrate without fighting. We compliment each other and get in a fight over it, that's how we roll.

9. We're living in extraordinary times which require a pragmatic approach...
...to governing in order for it to be successful. This does NOT preclude President-Elect Obama being bold in his actions, since bold policy will be needed to overcome the troubling issues we face. However, President-Elect Obama, by all indidcations, is a reasonable man who, so far, has shown the intelligence and willingness to compromise in order to further the agenda of what he believes is best for ALL the nation. That is the genius of his leadership.

20. It's worse than I've ever seen it....
I thought '04 was bad, but this has been the most nasty, contentious election cycle that I've ever seen here. I have theories, but it would be counterproductive to mention them at this point.

I'm happy with the outcome of the election, and I'm coming here less and less now. I'm tired of all the posters that's only point is to deride and divide and garner a 100 post reply to their hyperbolic, overly dramatic OP, as if that gives them some kind of credibility.

Gone are the dilligent researchers of gdp that provided invaluable links and hard hitting stories backed up by facts that culminated into thoughtful discussion. They'll be back, in fact most just hang out in LBN now.

23. I agree. I want to see Obama through the Inauguration. I want to see Bush out.
This site was founded in response to a stolen election, a crime against our democratic system. That is my primary interest: our system and legitimacy, and beyond that the ending of the chokehold that Rightwing extremists have held our country in.

I have little interest in going forward into a four- or eight-year Primary-type battle among Democrats, characterized here by meanness and disrespect for others and their opinions. Like some others in this thread, I like all our prominent Democrats, and object to demonization of any of them.

(This opinion is cross-posted in a similar thread.)

24. Persecution complexes.
Some on the left have them as strongly as the RW fundie nutjobs do.

Also, it's generally easier for perennial "rebels," particularly after 8 years of Bush, to fight for/against something than to maintain a status quo. Once the agenda succeeds, they're left with nothing to do but find some new reason to complain, even when it comes to their own party.

39. Oh, boy! Another one of these!!
I keed! I keed!

Yes, we do need to get behind our president, but that doesn't mean we should shut down the normal exchange of differing opinions. The thing here I never understand is the penchant some have for agreement. Disagreement is normal and it is useful.

People will argue about which person likes Obama more. They'll argue about who loathes Bush the most. They'll argue about anything, because 1) they're opinionated, and 2) they enjoy arguing.

I consider these discussions public expressions by anonymous people of their most ID driven thoughts. THAT is the true value of the posts here - their basic honesty. That's why I don't get in a snit over any particular opinion. I don't get troubled by opinions, but by those who think they can nag others into agreement.

I don't care for jackasses, except when it's me.

43. Probably the possible incusion...
..of a Clinton in the White House, which is a trigger for the Hillary fever. Thought mostly dormant after the primaries, it seems to have been in hibernation, only rearing it's ugly head by the possibility that a Clinton would gain a post she is more than qualified for. No cure yet, but simple logic seems to stave off the onset. It's why the great majority of DU has not been affected. Thanks.

I'm not inclined to blindly follow anyone, but I do think we could stop for a bit and enjoy being surrounded by intelligence and competence for a while. We not only have better than BushCo (not hard to do), but we may be witnessing a really great administration.

Intelligence! Competence! What a concept. I'm still letting it all sink in, so I don't have the energy to nitpick, at least not yet.

53. Snarky Division Snarky Derision Snarky Division Snarky Lark
Snarky Division sounds like a great name for a funky big band.

Luckily, PE Obama has given us Change dot gov to look at our government to be, and participate.

And he seems to be gathering a boisterous bunch around him.

So our boisterous discussions are probably welcome in the Obama Era. We Americans just aren't used to ambling down to our local cafe to shout things out. But maybe it is A-OK with the new era. Better we be involved and squabbling than detached and careless.

Snarky Division sounds like a big band.

Snarky Derision sounds like a trio.
