The TANG Memo Issue Needs To Be Settled NOW.
This is getting ridiculous. The problem is, as long as there is even one IOTA of doubt about these memos they are going to hurt us. We need this settled, and in NO uncertain terms. I've read over arguments for AND against and I think both make sense. But the bottom line is, as long as there is a shadow of a doubt, it will be seen as just another 'attack' prop.

How and When can this be settled? I realize the best way to settle this is for Shrub himself to address the issues raised by the documents, but you know he is not going to do that. And as long as there is doubt about the docs he won't have to.

This sucks.

1. It's not going to hurt "us"--it's going to hurt Smirk.

.
Lingering questions about whether Smirk served honorably in the National Guard are what surrounds this whole font-gate thing.

3. I thought this story was dead 24 hours ago
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 09:58 PM by rocknation
But that was before before Hurricane Dan hit.

On CBS tonight, Dan Rather debunked the debunkers of the authenticity of his AWOL documents, and made the cable news channels look like fools (transcript). If he's the only person who ends up pursuing the story, well, I doubt he'll be shedding any tears. And who's to say that he's showed ALL the documents he's obtained?

4. I disagree
To to average voter, this is nothing but a bunch of background noise. This most lasting message is there is some controversy regarding the memos. I doubt very few people even know about the content (Bush was reprimanded). On the other hand, if these memos are proven to be forgeries, the Kerry camp will take a big hit from the likes of Wolf, Candy and company.

5. Just as easily, the average voter hears there is controversy about
Bush fulfilling his National Guard service and disobeying direct orders.

And the documents aren't going to be proven as forgeries because there is not one shred of reasonable evidence that points to that.

Plus, it will be pointed out by Kerry's surrogates that Bush could clear up the matter by answering the questions himself and WHY WON'T HE?

Smirk is cornered now with this story.

6. Defense
That's true enough. But if they are proven 100% certain to be legit, I feel it will put Shrub on the defensive and that is GOOD. If they turn out to be a fraud, it will be the nail in Kerry's coffin. I don't like saying that, but that's what I honestly believe. And maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I feel that the arguments AGAINST the authenticity of the memo are more compelling than the arguments FOR it at the moment.

7. The documents are considered to be legitimate until

someone can prove otherwise. Not the other way around.

Evidence of forgeries or fakes that has been put forth has been shot down thoroughly by Rather and CBS.

8. Has Bush categorically denied the basis of the memo's?
No? Gee, don't you think if it was a lie, Bush/Rove would have the RW Wurlitzer pumping out the truth? Notice that the questioning of the documents is NOT coming from the RNC or the WH. In fact, Rove released the same docs as soon as CBS broke the story. Why? To put the best possible spin on the facts.

9. Here's how we KNOW the docs speak the truth................
Is there a single person anywhere out there who would take this stuff sitting down if it were a bald-faced lie???? Any NORMAL human being would be out there immediately, saying "these are fakes, it is a lie, and you may feel free to investigate them all you want; I know the truth". If someone did this to me I would be fit to be tied and they couldn't shut me up. Instead, Bush hides behind his spokespeople, who murmur quietly about how they are not sure if they are fake or not. What a load of BS, Georgie!
