Lieberman said he fears that America will be hurt if Democrats get 60 votes
Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) said he fears that America will be hurt if Democrats achieve a 60-vote, filibuster-proof majority in the Senate as a result of today's elections.

During an appearance on the Glenn Beck radio show, Lieberman said he somewhat agrees with Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who has said that in many ways America will not survive if Senate Democrats achieve a supermajority in the next Congress.

"Well, I hope it's not like that, but I fear," Lieberman said. "And I think for some of us there is a key."

Lieberman, who switched his party affiliation to "Independent Democrat" after losing Connecticut's Democratic primary to a liberal challenger in 2006, has campaigned vigorously for John McCain, and could be a possible candidate to switch to the Republican Party in the next Congress.

"It was really put there, a 60-vote requirement as somebody said to me when I first came to the Senate, stop the passions of a moment among the people of America from sweeping across the congress, the House, to the Senate and to a like minded President and having us do things that will change America for a long time," Lieberman said. "So the filibuster is one of the great protections we have."

There are plenty of other articles that say the same thing as the one above does, too.

Lieberman is nothing but a disgusting turncoat, and it's sickening that our Party caved again and rewarded him like that, especially when most of the analysts are saying chances are slim to none that we'd get to 60 votes anyway.

1. Proof of insincerity -- the 60 vote myth k*r
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 01:39 PM by autorank
Why? Because the entire 60 vote margin is a myth. When was the last time the Democrats voted in
a block?

It's a fake media issue and Lieberman knows it. He's strayed from the opposition in the past
consistently. Why would he or his DINO pals be loyal now, although more of them will under Obama.

He's a complete liar. Nothing he says can be taken for what it is and now that we know who he
is, enough.

Obama said he should be allowed to stay in the caucus. That was an intelligent message -- take his
chair position and keep him around for the numbers.

Remove him from the chairmanship*

*On Edit - just read the news - OMf'ingG!, they let him keep it - disgusting beyond belief.
What is the matter with these people. No wonder we're broke and headed for a depression.
This is simply stunning. The DINO's have reached a new low, which for them is very low.

31. They may vote more like a block now (fingers crossed) since
the Majority Whip, Dick Durbin, will have President Barack Obama on speed dial if needs him.

2. Does that indicate that Lieberman would NOT be the 60th vote as he sees abject danger?

3. How did Lieberman vote the last time the minority Dems tried to filibuster
the majority Republicans?

Can't help thinking how we never could count on him in the past, when it counted. On anything.

13. When Kerry was atttempting to lead a filabuster....
.....to block the appointment of Roberts (Alito?) to the Supreme Court,
Lieberman LED the "Gang of 14" to help seat the Bush appointee.

The 60 seat majority excuse is a myth to rationalize away the Democrat's obligation to represent the American People.

Lieberman can hurt us more than help us. Mark my words. He's not done being a troll operative for the right.

17. I don't see where it matters.
Lieberman will vote however he wants to no matter what the Democrats do to him. They might just as well kick him out. There's no up or down side to it other than just some good old fashion satisfaction in doing what's right.

21. I don't doubt it but for one reason.
It will be easier to talk Pryor and Landrieu into a Gang of 3 on the HSGA Committee to flank Obama if Lieberman remains a Democrat the entire time.

Otherwise, I'd be right with you. God knows Sean Hannity will have a direct line to the latest gossip from the committee.

12. No kidding. I can't see how anyone can justify Lieberman by the "short leash" theory
It's hard to take that kind of reasoning after what's transpired in the last 2 years.

A short leash tied to a fast car. Preferably one heading to the border.

Lieberman will make his own decision...?? I didn't realize he had made this comment about 60 votes...sounds to me as though he will go to the Rep's all by himself IF we end up with the 60 votes, iow, HE makes the move, no one pushes him out...hmmmm...interesting...wb

25. Then Why Didn't He Jump Ship to Prevent This
he alone could have saved us from this dangerous scenario - Oh I remember, the Senate Democrats threw their base under the bus yesterday instead of throwing Joe Lieberman off his chair leaderships and out of their caucus.
