So what you really mean by change is new people, old ways?
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 09:16 PM by EffieBlack
Many people are now attacking Obama for considering for his cabinet people who are connected to the previous Democratic administration, apparently believing that, rather than seeking people with federal government experience, he should try something very new and select people from the outside. Even though he never promised to fill his administration only with outsiders.

Yet, when he makes a conscious effort to DO things differently, for example, instead of publicly flogging Lieberman for campaigning against him, he takes the high road and refuses to engage in retribution - in keeping with his promise to not engage in partisan backbiting - many of these same people are screaming bloody murder.

Sounds to me as if, to some of these people, change means only different people, not a different way of doing things.

Obama has moved so much cheese around here that too many can't tolerate change.

Sorry if you weren't paying attention during the goddamned campaign.

He is who we thought he would be.

5. The change is...
Working together to get things done, instead of fighting. You are the one who seems to want the same old politics as usual.

7. Exactly
It seems that for some of these people it wasn't that they hated the way Republicans behaved when they were in charge. They just hated that it was Democrats in charge to behave that way.

Part of Obama's base is beating him up for doing exactly what he said he was going to do. "What do you MEAN you're going to reach across the aisle and work with people even when you don't agree with them?! We KNOW you said that you'd do that, but we thought you were lying to get elected! We didn't mean for you to actually DO it!!! We don't want CHANGE! We just want to be the people in charge of doing the same old thing!"

11. All along he said he would model his cabinet after Lincoln.
Read a book by Doris Kearns Goodwin and perhaps you'd be less shocked that the Change We Can Beleive In is here.

It means old people (because they are experienced and qualified) and new ideas.

6. It was a problem for Bill Clinton that Carter was so unpopular
Because Carter retreads were bad politics he brought in more new people than he probably should have an got off to a shaky start (that included losing congress)

It's a good thing that there are a lot of competent people from the Clinton WH who Obama can rely on.

16. Yes, he did things differently. That is to be lauded.
What I am worried about is that the people being considered having the potential to undermine his presidency. Although it is too early to say whether this is successful or not, I do have to say that for all his choices (and the careful vetting that has come about), there is going to be more drama than what Mr. Obama bargained for.

But even in that, I wish for the best and that change will eventually come to us. I also hope that the people picked will do their jobs in good faith for this country instead of themselves.

In the end, it all comes down to trust.

18. I wonder what the tv..
is saying. I can usually tell after a certain number of posts what the dope is, and where the criticism is coming from. The whole Hillary thing is so reminiscent of the VP selection. I just hope he chooses his cabinet soon, and gets inaugurated.
