Want the facts about the Killian memos? Find the secretary who typed them
In those days, it was almost never the case that the writers of memos were the same as those who typed them. Maybe this is different in the military.

I'll wager that there is a secretary out there who remembers typing these memos, and probably also remembers Killian bitching about little chimpy, who, I am quite sure, was a complete pain in his backside.

1. You think maybe this is Rather's source?
I hope he is ready to kick some ass if necessary!

2. Hmmmm... now there's an idea.
He/she must have known that this was some juicy stuff, and may have been worth keeping a copy!

3. company clerk, perhaps. Probably, in fact.
My father had a secretary or AA for most of his career, who handled the administrative tasks. (career Navy, as it happens. Retired in 91.)

4. because CBS is part of the friggin partisan media , I do not think they
will sully their news department to publish fake memos..they could lose millions in advertising..lose it to batter Bush ?..I don't think so..that's why they know they are real

5. Even if the secretary is never found, it doesn't mean anything
She or he may no longer be living. She or he may have been one of a pool of typists, and nobody remembers who typed what that long ago.

And was chimpy the only problem child in TANG? Doesn't sound that way. Sounds like TANG at that time was packed full of fortunate sons whose powerful dads paid to get them there.

This is not meant as a slur in any way on TANG. It's a slur on chimpy.

6. That's a good point.
But it sounds to me like someone other than Killian had this file. Who else would have had access to it?

8. Company Clerk for Bush's unit on CBS last night?
Wasn't there a company clerk that was interviewed by Dan Rather during the follow-up of the document forgery broadcast? He said that the document was completely consistent with documents he prepared during the time Bush was in the unit. Anybody remember him, video?

11. WONDERFUL! Ok, then I think that Rather has similar, unrelated docs
to compare. And, he can learn from the clerk what sorts of office machinery were used to create the docs.

7. Heh heh
That was my exact thought too. I was 71/L (clerk/typist) in US army 1985-1987. There was ONE typewriter in my office, so guess who typed EVERYTHING? I typed shit for about 17 people. I worked in two different offices, and it was the same in both. It was also the same for every OTHER office in the military that I ever came in contact with. You KNOW that officer didn't type those memos, but his secretary DID.

AND, suppose ol' Bushie pissed her/him off at some point? You think he/she didn't hang onto those memos, PLUS THE ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN NOTES that they came from, knowing who Bushie was?

'Twould be priceless, wouldn't it?

14. Oh yeah! Now if you were working in that office, and Chimpy
walked in, all smirky and entitled-like, you very well might have decided to make a little file on him. Especially if you knew that his Daddy was running for office.

10. Clerical Military Question...
When I worked as a secretary, if I typed work for someone I would put that persons initials in upper case toward the bottom of the page with a / then my initials in lower case. That way it was easy to identify the author of the letter/memo and who typed it. Did they do that in the military? Is it on any of these documents? I'm not sure where they are posted....

16. Not sure
I was clerk/typist in the military, and for the LIFE of me, I can't remember cuz I've had too many other secretarial jobs in the meantime. I DID look at those memos, wondering, but I didn't see any tagline. And it isn't ALWAYS initials, anyway--sometimes just numerical, but I can't remember how the Army operated..... I'm sure someone will.

17. Seems to me it was unnecessary because
It had whoever wrote it's sig on it and the typed name below. I probably DIDN'T have my initials on anything I did because, well, why WOULD I? I was the only person with a typewriter in the office (and this was in the 80s), so everyone KNEW who typed it.

She sure was quick to come out with that one.
Think that was on Imus in the morning.

Has she ever heard of hunt and peck?

that "suddenly just rolled away" and pinned her against the garage.
