99-year old Granny votes for first time in 48 years!
FOR KERRY, of course. My grandma's last vote was for Eisenhower.

She thinks Bush and his cronies are the epitome of everything that has gone wrong in this country over her lifetime. She says they are just "millionaire oil tycoons" who start foreign wars to line their own pockets when that money is needed here instead. They help out the rich "while they stab the poor people in the back and send them off to die in war" for their own greed.

She turns 99 next month and has already submitted her absentee ballot in Ohio. Her mind is still sharp as a tack but thinks any day could be her last. She wanted to make sure she did this one last thing.

I think we should all heed the wisdom of our elders!

9. My Mom...
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 10:09 AM by Nightjock
She's 60 years old and never,EVER talked politics.
She came here from Germany when she was 18... when my "dad knocked her up" with me!(lol)
She lives in Pennsylvania and she is so upset with Bush she is voting for the first time.

It's the most amazing transformation I've seen!
When I would call her it's always about her grandkids and her cats. Now she always starts out talking about how Bush has to go and she can't wait to vote!

The hell with these polls! Bush is toast!

20. Much love to your mom, nightjock ...
... my mom's side of the family were Eastern European immigrants ... and GOOD DEMOCRATS (because they realized, early on, which party would actually help them).

15. Bless Granny
Hope she makes it through Nov.2. Every vote counts. A lot of people who haven't voted in years will be voting in the election, I think. Just make sure your Granny hasn't had her name removed from the register. She may have to re-register since its been so long.

18. Let's reach out to all the old-timers
Like my Grandma, most probably aren't even registered to vote. Thankfully my younger brother drove her down to the Board of Elections to register her and get an absentee ballot.

We need people to offer to pick up and drive shut-ins to the BOE to get registered. Are any precinct chiefs working on this angle? We also need volunteers to drive the elderly to the polls on election day.

Seniors are especially hard hit by drug prices and the MediCare price hike. She knows without her late husband's paltry union pension, SS, and other public assistance she wouldn't exist. People like her remember the Great Depression and how people lived before FDR. They understand that its all under attack right now.

:kick:

PS: More Granny thoughts...
* The greatest invention of the 20th century was the clothes washer
* WTC: people shouldn't erect buildings that tall; its ego
* Planes: they are death traps and anyone riding in them should expect to die!

I love that statement!

My 68 year-old Mamaw will be voting for Kerry as well. She usually doesn't vote, but she realizes just how much Bush has fucked this country over. Over the course of Bush's presidency, she's become a hardcore democrat. Hopefully, this is a trend, former non-voters and undecideds coming out overwhelmingly in support of John Kerry. If so, Kerry*Edwards will easily win the election and the Democrats, maybe, just maybe, can re-take Congress!
