Klassic KKKarl Rove strategy. Kill the messenger.
This is classic Rove. Muddy-up the waters by running a parallel story - Forgery. The 'main story' (bush deserter) gets lost in the argument over typewriter balls and computer fonts. So now this is a story about Dan Rather (CBS) vs. bush* not whether or not bush* was AWOL. Rove is a demonic genius.

1. it's not rocket science
someone produces damning documents, it's pretty fucking obvious to yell forgery. The question is, why did the media run with such a crude obvious groundless attack against a respected journalist?

3. Because the media is 'corporate America'. Follow the money.
Remember that the federal government licenses the airwaves to the media, they do no own them. The media exists at the whim of the government.

5. Dan Rather is not a good person to mess with.
He will fight back - and he has a podium from which to fire back and 50 years of reputation behind him.

6. Simple
It's one more week that nobody will talk about anything important like the economy, lack of jobs, lack of health care, lack of education, and rampant poverty that has flourished over the last four years.

The only chance to keep * in power is not let anyone think about this four year long nightmare we're in. It's the reason for the SBV's and it's the reason for this crap. Diversionary tactics like this are amazingly effecting because... well some might say because we're f^ckin' stupid.

8. Because they are no longer journalists
They are mouthpieces for the administration.

Most of the s0-called media these days are chosen on looks & personality...they were communication majors & know zilch about the world.

Contrast them to the last generation of Cronkites, Brinkleys, etc.
They worked as international correspondents, covered wars, & started out as print journalists. They wrote all their own copy.

Todays talking heads are readers of info. I am amazed at mispronunciation of countries, cities, etc.

They are dumbed down, just like the audience they are reading to.

9. And so quickly
Report comes out one day and critics had not the originals or time to do any sort of real investigation. This alone makes the forgery claims plausibly weak.

7. He's the fat nerd everyone beat up, give me a break. Rover is all
out of tricks, he's recycling his tricks now. I think the Dems have got it down after the latest Condi/Cheney/Dumbsfield/McSmellen/Powell neatly packaged "roll out the map," choreographed propaganda stunt from Dick Clarkes outing Bush as irresponsible and incompetent.

Anyone who thinks Rover isn't digging his hole deeper hasn't been paying attention. If you want to play with the big dogs, learn to shit in the tall grass. Rover is OVER.

Medals should be given out to Jon Stewart, Dan Rather, all the DNC and everyone here on DU, TruthOut, Michael Moore and the many courageous people who stood behind truth and justice instead of caving into fear.
