My comments about Kerry's on health care for the rich and poor being like
...Jim Crow
I know there's a thread about it already but there's attacks on the poster who said it blah blah, etc.
Here's my opinion on it.
Kerry was totally right to compare it, part of the struggle in Jim Crow wasn't just the mere segeration of the races but that the black students in the schools would get outdated reading material, the cheapest stuff that money could buy and meanwhile their white counterparts would have more up to the date material, when Kerry compares our current health care problem that is, the rich have all this health care and the poor are just struggling to get some, he is totally right to do this. It's a valid comparsion, the poor in our country are just struggling along to get health care and meanwhile, you see your rich Mr. Millionaire or whatever who has specialized doctors, etc. Kerry was right to said what he said here and I hope to say him saying more things like his hero Bobby Kennedy would say and it also sounds Edwards like too. So I say to John Kerry, rock on superman :D.

2. This should be discussed in seventhson's thread
but its in a wee flame war right now. Shame, we're too busy bickering to listen to the point Kerry made which I found to be very valid and to the heart. There are some people who have a specialized message therpaist in our country and there are some who just need a doctor, makes me think that we still have a lot of work to do to make the american dream real again.

4. Not too mention a severe shortage of nurses, who could be enlisted
to provide care in poorer and rural areas.

Yeah, I had to get out of that one. Icky, to say the least.

10. at least it got the subject broiling!
My point was about the media spin against Kerry (motivated I am certain by pharmaceutical investment in CNN, etc.) on this issue:

"OHHHH! It's not THAT bad!" says Begala.

Pissed me off good.

It IS that bad.

I KNOW because I have no health insurance and I have a wife and two kids. It is worse for those who live in dire poverty. I can at least ALMOST afford to buy medecine we need and pay for occasional doctor visits.

Realistically the lack of health care is killing me though as there are treatments I need and cannot afford for me and my family.

Instead I got attacked for challenging PB! Oh well!

Thanks for doing this thread JK.

I will defend my views in the other thread.

11. Sorry your thread got broiled, guy.
Even I got po'ed at you over "that" issue, but fercrissakes, that was eons ago in DU time.

You raised a valid point, and Kerry was dead-on in his statement.

Begala is covering his own ass; he's not one of ours unless he resigns from CNN.

And he IS a corporate whore of the druggies.

16. The Lack Of Health Care for Millions of Americans
is a Crime Against Humanity.

Hillary tried to make it an issue and the corporate medical establishment SLAMMED her and Bill.

I heard Kerry say the FIRST DAY he is on office he is going to sendf legislation to Congress for comprehensive health care for ALL Americans.

The Neocons and corporofascists do NOT want this because it will threasten their monopolies and their HUGE profit margins.

Kerry IS making this a centerpiece of his candidacy and it is a HUGE issue.

I know because I and my family suffer for lack of medical care or insurance (We HAD insurance through jobs but lost these jobs when the economy tanked - both our jobs now have no insurance at all).

Anyway - thanks for the support folks.

I HATE it when Begala gives them ANY benefit - and on THIS issue is one Begala SHOULD be railing about for US -- not denigrating Kerry for rasing it as a civil rights or human rights issue.

IT IS a human rights issue.

We are the only indistrialized nation on the planet without healthcare for all citizens.

It is criminal

What happened in the primaries is over, Ive forgiven and moved on for the most part except with those who still will attack Kerry over silly things like being wealthy.

3. Damn straight, JK (proud to call you that!)
And it isn't even simply the poor; even those WITH health insurance are being squeezed by higher premiums, deductibles, co-pays, and prescriptions.

It's a class war in the making. We can't let it happen, and the best way to prevent it is something we all are already doing.

John, you make me so proud for the future of the US and the Democrats.

I'll be proud to say I knew you when!

7. great points, Kerry understood well as did his audience
it isn't just about health care itself, but it's about providing quality care just as the rich people have because he sees health care as something all people deserve. not as something only the rich can afford.
