Who is the cancer specialist you'd rather have a beer with?
If this is an unacceptable way to choose a specialist when the matter is life and death...can someone PLEASE tell me how it has become germaine to a presidential race where it IS a matter of life and death for the entire planet?

1. I couldn't agree more.
Cult of personality, indeed.

Dammit, all I care about is who is going to save my beloved nation?

There is only one answer to that question.

I trust I don't need to explain further...

2. Because we are told it is
If enough media agree on something or say it, it doesn't matter how true it is.

6. just like they tell us Bush is the likable regular guy and Kerry is
elitist and stiff.

yet it's bush who doesn't want to do the town hall style debate with citizens across the country doing the questioning. and it's bush who has loyalty oaths to attend rallies. you would think if he was so likable they would want people who don't support him to see him .

7. I would gladly vote for someone who comes-off as an asshole..
if he/she is the more intelligent and qualified for the position. I don't give a damn about personality - just implement intelligent policies. If this were the 12th grade class president contest or American Idol, I might think differently.. but this is the big league here.

9. Exactly. I never thought Al Gore
was warm and cuddly nor did I ever imagine him attending a barbecue at my house. That was the farthest thing from my mind. What I did know was that he was intelligent and experienced and that is the kind of leader I wanted. Nobody would ever pick a bad doctor, a bad mechanic, a bad financial consultant, etc. because they were nice and you could imagine having a beer with them. Yet when it comes to our country's whole future otherwise intelligent people are willing to base their choice on something that stupid and meaningless. It just amazes me.

12. Kind of preaching to the choir, except that our choir seems to have been..
infiltrated with talentless hacks that have no business opening their mouths to sing. Amazing the effect that a few talentless singers can do to a really good choir.

I propose that DU nominates an official mole detector... these people are getting far too many of their RW talking points into our space.

13. What is this, a high school election?
Many people do not like or follow political issues, so to compensate for that, they simply resort to a "like/dislike" popularity contest akin to high school elections.
