Dan Rather's Five Questions About Bush - What Were They?
In a segment on the CBS Evening News Friday night, Dan Rather covered the controversy over the documents that showed that Bush had not fulfilled his duty to the TANG. He mentioned the questions over whether a typewriter of that era could type a "th" character and so forth.

Then he went on to add that once you got past the red herrings, there were five quesions regarding Bush's time in the TANG that the White House, to this day, has never answered. Though I've searched the CBS News site, I can't find a transcript of that story from Friday night. I did not tape it either.

One question was "did or did not Bush refuse an order to take a flight physical." I'd really like to have, verbatim, the questions that Dan Rather posed. If anyone has a link to those questions or taped the news and can transcribe the questions, I'd really appreciate your assistance.

This is a serious request, so although I know some of you have some humorous answers all made up, please refrain from providing them just this once.

Thanks.

2. here are a few more questions
http://democrats.org/blog/comment/00010976.html ....Why did George Bush say "I did my duty" when he missed months of duty in 1972, 73 and 74?...... How did George Bush avoid getting called into active service for missing months of duty in 1972, 73, and 74? .......Why did George Bush disobey a direct order to take his physical? ......What standard did George Bush fail to meet when he was grounded for failing to perform at US Air Force/Texas Air National Guard Standards? .....Why did George Bush go above his commander's head to ensure a favorable evaluation he had not earned? .....Why did George Bush say he received "no special treatment" when Ben Barnes says he pulled strings to secure a Guard slot for him? ....Who asked Bush family friend Sidney Adger to get Bush a slot in the Guard immediately after Bush graduated and at the height of the Vietnam War? ......When will George Bush produce any credible witness who can attest to his service in the Alabama Air National Guard?

3. I found two
quoted questions from Rather, sorry, while I was looking for the others, I lost the link to them. I read them yesterday, but cannot find them now. I've been saving everything to my hard drive to burn on a CD later, and could kick myself for not saving this one. I think the questions were a part of an interview he had with someone from radio, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, here are the two; sorry about not having a link.

"Did a wealthy oilman who was a friend of the Bush family come to the speaker of the Texas House and ask for preferential treatment for George Bush, and did he get it?

Did or did not then-Lieutenant Bush refuse to obey a direct order from a military superior?"

5. That's it!
Or at least that's what I think the original poster wanted.

Thanks DesertDem, I wanted those questions too, and was going nuts looking for them!

:)

Rather: The story is true. And the questions raised in the story are serious and legitimate questions.

The questions are: Did Lt. Bush refuse a direct order from a military superior in time of war? That's Question One. Question Two: was he suspended for failure to perform up tothe standards of the U.S. Air Force and the Texas National Guard? That's Number Two.

Three. Did he ever take the physical he was ordered to take by his military superior? Or if he didn't take that physical, why didn't he take that physical?

I want to emphasize that I stand behind my president. We're in a time of war and I stand behind my president. There's no joy in reporting such a story, but my job as a journalist is not to be afraid and when we come up with facts and legitimate questions that are supported by witnesses and documents which we believe to be authentic, to raise those questions no matter how unpleasant they are.

I do want to underscore with you that the White House took their shots at us today. The Bush Cheney campaign took their shots at us. They have not answered the question: did or did not the president obey a direct order from his military superior while he was a lieutenant, was he or was he not suspended for failure to meet performance standard of the Air Force and TANG, if he didn't take the physical, why didn't he take the physical? Also, one of the questions that's out there, where is the efficiency report every officer, particularly a flying officer, is supposed to have a yearly efficiency report. There is no such report for the last year. I emphasize again that there is no joy in asking these questions, but I think these are legitimate questions and I stand by the story.

7. Thanks, all
I think we've got a good head start here.

On the Friday CBS Evening News, he mentioned the typewriter technical questions and then moved to the heart of the matter, which is the questions about Bush's lack of service, questions the WH has never answered. He looked right into the camera as he stated his questions. I had been hoping that they would be at the cbs.com website, but I have yet to find a transcript of the segment.

I'd still like to find a transcript, just to have an ironclad link. The questions he asked have been provided in this thread.

Thanks for your help.
