This real election is a battle between CBS and FOX News.
It's not about Democrats or Republicans. It's not about Bush vs Kerry. It's about who controls the media and the "news" (propaganda) of this country. At least, that's the way it seems sometimes. The real election is about who controls the finances of this country. And the further question is about how far are we from true fascism?

1. I would agree, this is where the real slug fest is going on today.
Rather has spoken his mind when he has been out of the country. I hope CBS prevails.

2. Definition
1. often Fascism a. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. b. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
2. Oppressive, dictatorial control.
ETYMOLOGY: Italian fascismo, from fascio, group, from Late Latin fascium, from Latin fascis, bundle.
OTHER FORMS: fas·cistic (f-shstk) —ADJECTIVE

WORD HISTORY: It is fitting that the name of an authoritarian political movement like Fascism, founded in 1919 by Benito Mussolini, should come from the name of a symbol of authority. The Italian name of the movement, fascismo, is derived from fascio, “bundle, (political) group,” but also refers to the movement's emblem, the fasces, a bundle of rods bound around a projecting axe-head that was carried before an ancient Roman magistrate by an attendant as a symbol of authority and power. The name of Mussolini's group of revolutionaries was soon used for similar nationalistic movements in other countries that sought to gain power through violence and ruthlessness, such as National Socialism.

3. IMO, you just nailed it. It indeed is a matter of how close we are to
facism or at a minimum state controlled media. If one watched Hannity rip into Robert Reich about Bush*'s guard duty, it came out clearly. "You are calling our president a liar, etc." My wife and I reread 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 and now look at one another when we hear a republican or Fox "News" fan and later say how quickly it's happening. Most of broadcast media is close to being state controlled. We have seen a lot in 65 years.

4. yep....I've been saying this since before the 2000 election
just read On Bended Knee for starters

or try Liberty Under Siege, by Walter Karp; that goes all the way back to Carter.....his presidency was undone by a combo of media, big business (energy independence was THE jewel in his tarnished crown), and his own corrupt, venal democratic brethren in congress, like the VASTLY overrated slimebucket Tip ONeill.

this isn't news. it's just becoming obvious to the point of not being able to ignore it anymore

6. oh....and, BTW, I look for CBS to try and let this blow over,
just as EVERY mainstream media outlet has allowed stories averse to the BFEE to die on the vine

they have NEVER followed a single Bush crime to its conclusion

please disabuse me of this notion, regarding our investigative community

9. I am afraid it will die on the vine and the media will leave the
impression that it was just a Democratic party smear.

5. Thats the truth
If people could just realize that FOX is going to bat for the right, they'd do their own research, and get the real facts.

7. Very good point...
I was thinking on this recently & considered posting it myself.

What we're really talking about in this day & age is a "media war." It is perhaps the only chance we have of enacting change.

If all the media sits on the same side of the spin, the corruption will continue to breed. Until a media force is willing to strongly & openly oppose * propaganda, no progress will be made.

CBS may be the true dark horse pulling from the pack.

In this day & age, media is the most influential force available. People receive their trials in the press.

I hope CBS is courageous enough to go to media war.
